Hey guys so it recently got me thinking if a fiberglass hood can withstand the heat from a cars engine then maybe custom molds can be made for a fiberglass grow space ? :) its easy to shape, fun to play with, can hide it in places would not think of looking ? what do you guys think ? :)

Be prepared to park it in the sun for a week or so if you plan to use polyester resin. Stuff stinks for a while. My drain table is plywood with fiberglass on top - makes a very durable and waterproof structure. Hard to imagine FG being a cost effective solution for anything more extensive than that.

I agree I have worked with the stuff before. I made a nft channel with it once... while he is at it why not carbon fibre? lol

what others have said - i've worked with fb and carbon fiber - built a car hood from CF, just the resin alone ran just over one gallon at $390 gallon. There are other cheaper resins but we needed a higher temp (or resin with a higher thermal set) resin

not worth it economically - much more economical solutions - get a duct work shop to bend you the cabinet you want, especially with the economy slow, suspect you can get one fabbed for $100-150 the size of a bathtub /shower combo - and you'll won't have any clean up after you're finished like you will with epoxy resin.

you'd be smart to try something small with fiberglass before starting a large item - all the book reading in the world won't prep you totally. There are outfits (wicks aircraft supply) that sell small "starter" kits with some fiberglass, epoxy etc and instruction manual so you can learn how much fun epoxy or polyester resins are to play with.
