Few random questions on breeding/hunting

So I’ve got these ‘79/‘81 super skunk seeds I’m setting on, been dying to get some good skunk. All the hybrids are starting to smell and feel the same to me.

Loads of people looking for RKS, and apparently some are looking for it in these heirlooms. Have no idea if it’s out there, or if im looking in the right place, but I figured I would join in and look for it while Im fulfilling my needs. Have 10 regs so im thinking i might start off ten plants, pollinate some to diversify my gene pool and keep up my stock if i dont find anything interesting the first run. Anyways, here are some random questions i have to help me get started, thanks:

-For breeding selection, what key attributes do you look for in veg?

-Are there any ways to identify possible phenos in veg with things like stem rubs, etc?

-Are there legitimate ways to discern male from female in veg?

-Will any desired traits you want to breed for pass on those traits regardless of sex?

-Can you pollinate individual buds without compromising the rest of tent? Or is it better to just pollinate the whole plant?

-Would it be beneficial to just start 12/12 from seed for hunts and breeding or should i veg a few weeks?

I will have more, thats all i can think about at the moment.

Hello friend, and thanks for the post. It takes a lot of plants, space, time, and labor to do what professional breeders do. The best way for anyone to learn about breeding is to learn as you go. Jump in with both feet and start right away.

After you get involved you will notice differences in plants. As far as sexing goes the plants will show you their sex in plenty of time to make choices before flowering. You can start with 12/12 but I think that will minimize the attributes of the strains. The more natural photoperiod like mother nature, the better the plants will show genetics.

I pollinate individual flowers without spreading pollen to the garden. I use a tiny paintbrush and a plastic bag with donor pollen and carefully pollinate only one small flower top. I experimented with one branch with five different pollens and was surprised by the success. Good luck and keep us posted on your work.
