Hey TacticalFarmer,

I'm right with ya on that one, I think diversity is helpful. Using up to 15 ingrediants in my Tea's, just a little of each.

Plan to up that # by starting some fungi cultures.

Respect,

I have about 15 "dry" amendments but as far as bottled liquids go it is a very short list.

1. Organic Blackstrap Molasses
2. Back-up non organic blackstrap molasses
3. Dyna-Gro Pro-tect for silica
4. kelp extract for foiler app only(I use kelp meal not extract in my tea)

I still have a couple bottles of the original Pure Blend(NOT PRO) but those will likely get dumped on the lawn as I am trying to get away from bottled nutes altogether by brewing as much compost tea as possible.

IMHO the only thing that indicates is that it seems that you are spending a lot of money on stuff you don't need?

You could ditch 80% of that, and would never know the difference, except for in your wallet..

my 2euros..

EatMoGrass, funny you brought up Dyna-Gro Pro-tec - that & GH Chi is on my shopping list.

Its not really a matter of needing them - it seems to be more about maximizing growth / health / quality / weight.

A DIY farmer just can't source boosters like that on there own locally for free.

I look at it like training an athlete for Olympic gold (Russian Style).

If final yield is increased by a few percent then there is no money lost.

Im all about old school methods - Plan to do side by side testing soon.

While making 3 new cultures today found the Maxi Crop Kelp (stinking) & Metanaturals Bloom (hardnening up).

There more than 1/2 full & need composted as there shot.

Pissed me off - put a shot glass full of EVERY dry & wet fert into the cultures to use them up sooner.

Made 3 large super rich cultures today - going to make a thread soon.

1: Nitrogen / Bacterial dominate (Veg - HOT)

2: Phosphorus / Fungal dominate (Flower - HOT)

3: Phosphorus / Fungal dominate (No nutes - NPK 0-0-0)

I've never been able to tell the difference between any kinds of organic fertilizers in the final outcome, but that doesn't stop me from agreeing with the 'diversity' plan. To me it's like bent steel saddles and vintage six screw trems on a Strat. I can't really hear the difference, but the 'mojo' factor is enough to influence my choice in building.

Yeah GreenGenes,

I'm not pickin' up a single ingrediant that stands out, that's why I use a little of many different organics. Some of my purchases were looking for that one amazing add. Now they all get used together, till they're gone. In the meantime I shop for inexpensive organic's, I've found some local mixes that are combinations of the ingrediants I've been using.

Bout 5$ a pound....Blood, bone, kelp, fish, cottonseed, alfalfa, feather meals, dried poultry compost, Calcium Rock Phosphate, and Potassium Sulfate. Takes care of most of the adds that I use to ammend SunShine#4.

Also has Humic Acid from Leonardite and Bacteria's, as well as Endo's and Ecto's.

So far all my strains are bustin out, except the Jack Herer, I can't quite make the Jackie happy.

Respect,

Green/Rip- I agree, diversity is key.

I just went out and bought all the things that are in these 'amazing' products in bulk, and make my own.

I just can't justify buying a bunch of single ingredient minerals, meals, 'ferts' and amendments, and then going out and buying shiny bottles of %96 water for $100 gallon on top of it..

seems kind of

After having to toss the expired items, im going to kick Amish mode into high gear.

Been prepping the back yard for cover crops for the compost pile & liquid extracts.

Got some seeds coming.

Crimson Clover
Buckwheat
Alfalfa
Comfrey
Marigolds
Yarrow
Chamomile
Jasmin
Rosemary
Lavender
Fenugreek

Started a lacto rice culture last night for the first time.

Should be able to slowly ween myself off some of the items but you just can't replace some of those liquids.

The rate of absorption just can't be beat vs. dry.

Loving foliar sprays in veg with alot of those also.

meals

Alfalfa meal
soybean meal
Canola meal
linseed meal
cottonseed meal
neem seed meal
kelp meal
-------
Minerals- 50# bags of:

Soft rock phosphate
Glacial Rock Dust
Azomite
dolomite lime
greensand
--------

other bulk items-
Earth Worm Castings
100% water soluble humic acid
100% water soluble kelp
Mycorrhizal Fungi
Wholesome sweeteners organic blackstrap molasses / organic blue agave nectar

I currently only use 2 bottled ingredients..

Dyna Grow Pro Tekt (bought to mix with neem oil in a recent war vs. spider mites, now using up in my compost teas)

and the free gallon of Escential spray that i use in my last 10 days in water only feedings.

An evil human being recently gave me a free gallon each of the 8 products in the General Organics Vegan lineup, and I plan to
start a grow journal doing a 50/50 of my soil mix and tea mix vs my soil mix with the GO in teas...

When reading the ingredients list for all 8 products, the only thing I don't have that they use is 'kieserite', a magnesium mineral product..

we'll see...

Where does one even get 50# bags of this stuff? I wouldn't even know where to begin- and I live in farm country.

Not to mention- the mixing of it seem like a major headache. I think that's the reason for the high prices on the bottles- they do the work for you. I suppose if you've got the space and the availability, bulk items would be the way to go!

I live in farm country as well.(kind of)..

I sourced some from animal feed stores, local grain elevators, etc..

I called my local nursery, and asked if they could order these things , knowing that they didn't have them in stock, and after checking their sourcing books, they could..

The only things I could not find anywhere local was the glacial rock dust, kelp meal, and humic acid. I found the glacial rock dust online at planet natural, on their soil amendments page.
http://www.planetnatural.com/site/xdpy/sgc/Soil%20Care/Soil%20Amendments
I purchase the humic acid and kelp meal at keep it simple. The site is run by a fellow organic grower, and ICmag'er at
http://www.simplici-tea.com/product_page.htm

I now have enough amendments to last for a looong time.

For your minerals, you can mix

Soft rock phosphate
Glacial Rock Dust
Azomite
greensand

in equal parts, and use 1.5 cups per 5 gallons soil mix. If you mix a large batch, you will have enough to last you for a year of soil mixing. Then add 2tbs per gallon of pulverized dolomite lime.

for the meals, you can mix 6 parts of each of the following (i use a 3 quart sauce pan)

Alfalfa meal
soybean meal
Canola meal
linseed meal
cottonseed meal

and to that add
2 parts Kelp meal
1 part neem seed meal

You can then add that mix at 1.5 cups to 5 gallons of soil mix.

You can also use that seed meal mix as 'feedings' in your compost teas at 1/4 cup per 5 gallon brew.

Clackamas Coot gave me this recipe to use to help me a while back in coming up with an animal free recipe to correlate with my Buddhist/vegetarian beliefs. I made that soil mix, and fed them a compost tea of 1 cup fungal enhanced EWC,1/2tbs humic acid/ and 1/4 cup of seed meals once a week, other than that they got 'plain' water..(1 cup ewc bubbled 24hrs, maybe a tbs of blackstrap molasses)

I can say that it is a recipe that produces amazing Cannabis. The most time is spent gathering the ingredients, mixing only takes about an hour or two, and you'll be set for quite a few grows.

Im kinda freakin' about my old gal of Liquid Karma thats about empty, but im not going along with the inflation at $70ish gal now.

But broke down & got Dynagrow Pro-Tekt 0-0-3 & Humboldt Equilibrium 1-1-2 (cal-mag-iron-etc).

Derived From: Soft rock phosphate, Calcium Carbonate, Crab meal, Magnesium oxide, Magnesium sulfate, Iron oxide, Solubor

Also Contains non plant food ingredient: Kelp, Yucca, polysaccharides and honey
