feral cats...

i don't like them when they come into my yard and fight with my cats, and i shoot in their "general direction" (Monty Python reference there) with my elderly Red Ryder bb gun if they are trying to catch a squirrel or bird i'm feeding. this morning, i did the usual, just bounced a bb off of my trailer to put one one the move. no harm, no foul, right? until i realized it WAS Thanksgiving after all, and started feeling guilty. then, i did todays crypto-quote, and it was "wealth among traditional people is measured by having enough to give away". so, i fixed her up a plate with chicken strips, Purina cat chow, bologna diced up, and some other cat food which i can't dredge the name of up at the moment. i lugged it out to the hole under my shed she had ran into, and leaned a board over it to keep the rain off. i am getting old and soft...and kind of like it. Happy Thanksgiving!

i suspect that she has kittens under there. that made my decision to feed her much easier. no, i don't want more cats...but i'm not gonna starve kittens either.

Nearly 60 years ago a feral mother cat had a litter of kittens under a shed my dad had built a decent distance from our house. I was the only one in my family who knew this. I pilfered food from our fridge and left it nearby for the mother cat who was wary of people.

After a few weeks, I spotted some kittens playing just outside their den, mom was away chipmunk hunting or something. When I was able to catch one, I learned feral kittens can spit, scratch and act pretty damn wild when a scary human being handles them. They were literally biting the hands that fed them.

My first lesson in perspective.

i caught one at work years ago, was bleeding on both hands by the time i got it into a box, lady in the office said "give it here, you don't know anything about cats..." i hand her the box and go back to work. ten minutes later, i walk into office and that bloodthirsty beast was asleep in her lap! "warm milk works wonders" she told me.

i've been off work sick for two weeks now with flu/pneumonia etc. i REALLY miss playing with the kittens at the shop...

thanks, fellows. i AM improving, finally. down to my last two HUGE damn pills i have to swallow tonight. biggest antibiotics i've ever seen. tired of trying to choke them down, been wondering if i could grind them up and mix in a glass of chocolate milk so they don't hang in my craw and burn my esophageal sphincter. i get bad acid reflux already, which can cause hiccups that last for weeks sometimes...

What a wonderful thing antibiotics are, they have saved my life and my Mrs.
Hiccups are as annoying as can be, especially the extended ones. I had them like that one time when I was hospitalised.
This may sound somewhat strange but for some reason I can control my hiccups and stop them quickly just by saying for them to stop. I know, but it's true, I just tell myself to stop the hiccups and they stop. Not sure when that came about but it works.

i AM looking forward to that, hopefully in the morning. i hope they haven't forgotten me. i've been out for over two weeks now, it'll be three on Thurday if i can't go tomorrow. dang things will be grown and gone to college at this speed...

well, i was worrying for no reason, lol. it was still dark when i got to work, and before i killed the motor, cats/kittens appeared in the headlights. you would have thought that nobody had fed them the whole time i was gone! never heard such meowing in my life...my boss has fixed them all beds in a tool shed, and has an electric space heater in there for them. one of the kittens has latched onto me as his/her "person", lol. it will climb up my clothing and sit on my shoulder. i'm like a reverse pirate, with a cat instead of a parrot sitting there...
