Im thinking of buying a small cottage and land. I want to ask advice on how to best make this profitable. It could be by farming or perhaps as a small holiday business. I want to do something completely different all thoughts appreciated...?

i would think that would be a difficult question to answer without know where you are thinking geographically. if its the north pole farming is out. if it is hawaii then snowmobiling tours or a sugar shack are out. location location location...

Choose something that you like to do and makes enough to live on. Building a business is really gratifying but often a slog.

Everyone wants to be their own boss. OTOH very few realize how consuming owning a business really is.

Mainstream farmers are going broke with the cheap prices. If you farm organic and find your nitche, you may be OK. Something like strawberries, or other non-mainstream GMO crop. Livestock? I would advise against Emus. Those didn't work out so well. I watched an Emu farm come and rapidly go, back in the EMU daze.

Yes Billy its central europe: warm summers , cold winters. Better climate than UK, less rain. Probably similar to central France, south west England.

Start an animal sanctuary...huge tax breaks and good deals on land and stuff. You could get a couple geese and a pig or a turkey or something. Turkeys are cool. If you like horses you can do it very cheap.
