Fantech, Elicent or Vortex...

I am going to buy a fan to air cool my lights. I was wondering if anybody can recommend a good, quiet, quality fan- Vortex, Elicent or Fantech are the three I am interested in. And please, don't respond unless you have firsthand knowledge of the fans. Thanks.

The stanley thread is great, I wish I had seen it before I dropped the $$ on my vortex. That being said though, I love my vortex! I have a 600 W hps in 3.5 x 3.5 feet, i run the 6" vortex on a speed control, turned all the way down and it scrubs my cab through a can 38/50, cools my hood and runs 24/7 without getting the least bit warm after 8 months now. It's almost silent, just a slight hum and my temps with the light on, "mid-day", NEVER go over 75 F. Alot of the time, my cab temp with the light on is 1-2 degrees BELOW ambient, can't beat that! Coupled with a 10 year warranty and bomb proof construction, great fans! If the stanley won't do it for you, I stand behind the vortex 100%

I have owned a 4inch Vortec, 6inch Vortec, and a 4inch Elicent... imo they were all made of similiar quality but the metal construction of the Vortec is enough for me to stick with them.... I picked up my vortecs from www.mdhydro.com Cheapest prices I could find at the time.

I would say that it mainly deals with how much money your willing to spend. The vortex's are imo some of the best fans on the market, and i would buy one without hesitation..... that is if i had $200 to spend on just a fan... which honestly i dont. For me its just way more effective to go out and mod a stanley for like $65 total and get pretty damn good results. I would say if you got the money go for the vortex, if you dont nothing can beat a good old stanley, but im still looking.
peace and good luck,

I've used Vortex, Elicent, Grotek and Can Fans and by far the best quality units are the Elicents IME. You get more airflow per $ using Vortex and are definitely a better deal but the quality is not the same. I, and others, have had problems using the larger Vortex fans with vibration and excess sound. One friend was using a new 12" Vortex and there was a loud reverberation which was eliminated by going with an Elicent 12". The expected life of an Elicent fan is like 20+ years (100,000 hours I believe) on 12/12. I believe the tolerances on an Elicent are much better than the Vortex.

I'm a little partial to the Fantechs, but only because I got them for free ;)

They are pretty quiet, but if I had to lay down my $ I'd go with the Vortex because the impeller in the Fantech is Plastic

8" Elicent here...no complaints at all. I installed an 8" Fantech for a friend, and their mounting brackets suck ass.

I seriously doubt you'll have any problems with any of them tho...get which ever one you can the cheapest and you'll be set.

i'd prolly go with a vortex from mdhydro.com...because it's a great deal

but.........there is a 4" fantech inline outside of my gf's house ....for her radon evac. system.
this fan has been running 24/7 since 1988...yup 19 yrs
and still very very quietly i might add

need i say more

I ran a 6" fantech 24/7 for 6 months, no problems but I was disappointed the impeller was plastic, I was just moving room air so no worries about heat. Still it ran smooth and quiet. I replaced it with an 8" can-fan,(delivered for $50, yep) steel impeller and going strong for 1 year 24/7, a whole lot more cfm but that's the size that matters for that. Who says size don't matter? They all sound like a jet till you get some duct work attached.

Peace

I use an 8" Fantech, great fan decided on them over others. Although the impeller is plastic, I think this may be for a good reason. The plastic is molded to its form and won't bend like it would on a metal impeller, a friend of mine had a Vortex and it started to reverberate sound. I would think that plastic may create less noise while running than a metal impeller as well. Although the difference would probably be negligible.
