fans & space

I need to cool a 6x4 grow room. I have found a few squirril cage fans on e-bay, looking at a 265cfm for exhaust & a 180cfm air supply fan. Will these be enough? No way to get air conditioning to the closet. The summer heat & 800w of light heat definately hurt my yield in that closet last year. Temps ran about 90 degrees, need to drop that!!!

Squirrel cage fans totally suck... I made the mistake early on in purchasing one of them... after fighting temps and air movement I switched over to an inline vortex...and never looked back.

Sure the cage fans are cheaper - but if saving money is really what you're after why not just to do the stanely blower fan mod... cheaper than a squirrel cage and has better output.

+1, BudLove has it all right.

Get a good inline fan...should be about 120ish bucks for a decent 6" fan.

This is the exact fan I have (from HTG).

It's fairly loud on full speed, although I have mine on a $15 diy speed control. Set on the lowest setting (which is more than enough for my box) it's very very quiet.

This is a pic of it in my attic. The shiny stuff is strips of dynamat to cut down on vibration through the ducting.

Just checked out the Stanley mod thread.....seems the "search" function is a very powerful friend :kos: . I already have one of these & didn't even realize it, man, I gotta lay off the hooch :joint: Think i'm gonna get another one at lowes & use it for a fresh air supply. Thank's for all the info & help!!

Sounds like you've already gotten this advice, but I'll chime in.

I'm running a 265 Dayton blower right now and it totally sucks. I've got the 4" flange produced by the manufacturer to fit the intake on this fan. When attached to ducting it reduces the power of the fan to almost nothing. This fan is not enough to exhaust my 120 cubic foot closet with a single 400 HPS.

I myself am considering a stanley mod for a quick fix, and then it will be in-line all the way. You realize you can get a 440 cfm 6 inch in-line fan from HTG for about $150? I haven't tried this fan, so I can't vouch for it, but that's infinitely better than the worthless squirrel cage I've got going now!

NP...I'm only guessing on the weight, but it's fairly heavy...it has a metal housing...maybe 15 lbs?

They might have shipping weight on htg.
