Fans in the Attic ?

I am mounting a 6" Vortex in the attic this weekend and I am looking for pics/ideas of how you mounted your fans in the attic...

Can't fans get too hot in the attic if left running 12-24 hours at a time?

my 6" vortex is mounted in the attic. my attic gets up to 140f in the summer and I have had no problems with this fan overheating. it runs 24/7. it is not even hot to the touch because they have cool 70f - 80f air exhausting through them from my grow room.

I installed a vent in the roof with a 6" collar on the underside. I have 6" insulated hose attached from the vent to the 6" vortex. I have 6 " insulated hose going from the other side of the vortex to a 6" exhaust collar mounted in the top of my grow room ceiling.

works like a charm with maximum airflow and no smell issues. All air is exhausted outside. I have a scrubber mounted in the top of my grow room that I attach during weeks 3 through finish of flowering. dont need it hooked up during veg or first 2 weeks of flowering due to no smell issues. this prolongs the life of my carbon in my filter before needing to be replaced.

My vortex is mounted by its bracket to a support beam in my attic. 2 wood screws on each side of the bracket hold it in place.

you cannot hear my vortex at all in the house and barely hear it if you are in the attic. if your standing in my grow room and everything is shut off (circ' fans, air pump etc, then you can hear the air rushing up thru the 6" ceiling hole from the vortex. it is very quite.

see pics.

hope this helps.

just drive a couple of nails or screws in the trusses then use bungee cords from the nails/screws to the fan. this made mine silent. i can here nothing up there at all just the whoosh of air that my room is making. but quiet in the attic

i vent into the attic but dont put the fan it self in there only thing in the attic is the scrubber it blow's that 140+ air right out the vents and my house a/c runs less now :) in the winter it heats it up from the lights put that power to use why waste it...

Thanks a lot JT. That gives me some ideas. I will post pics later with what I come up with.

here is a shot of the exhaust hole from the inside of my grow room which air is pulled out of with my vortex and pumped out of a flange on my roof. this flange is about 38' above ground level.

you can see my 28" long scrubber with 12lbs of carbon mounted at the top. it is only attached when smells need to be scrubbed. :rasta:

Late update: I had to deal with a hurricane so I got behind a bit. I ended up mounting it to the rafters. The bracket is the perfect size on center. I removed the ceiling fan and ran my duct through the existing hole. I use a variac in the room to control speed. Dead silent and works like a charm. Thanks for the help/ideas and pics guys.

jt what if it rains? would the water coming into your fan cause a short circuit/fire?

bro, it monsoon rains here. no leaks. its made to mount on a roof. as long as it is installed correctly, there will be no leaks.
