fanleaves reaching for light at vertical angle

well i had lights 3 feet from plants. about an hour ago i lowered it down to 1 foot and watered. An hour after lowering the light i noticed 2 fanleaves on one of the plants are reaching towards the light at a vertical angle. i cant quite understand this and can someone let me know wut this girl is doing?

its about 80 it actually is pretty hot but after watering today i checked runoff ph and it was cold so maybe it needs some warmth?

i got the fan all up in there got it blowing on the bulb now i would estimate it lowered temps a few degrees. feels bearable now.

Normally a plant will orient its leaves to maximize photosynthesis....

however if the light is too intense or too hot the leaves will orient themselves do use less light by pointing toward the lights allowing less light to hit the leafs survace....

I think part of this answer is correct,..the leaves will orient themselves to maximize photosysthesis. IMO the tips are orienting themselves upwards to benefit from the higher lumens available to them the closer they get, so in actuallity they are maximizing by reaching. DLB :joint:

I don't know, plants seem to reach up in the morning when they first get any light more than other times. I think they're just happy.

i like to wait until they are pretty dry before i water.. Its amazing how fast the leaves react. I cant almost tell their hydration level by their leaves.

from the web....

Plants can orient their leaves and flowers towards or away from the sun (Stanton and Galen, 1989), inways functionally similar the orientation movements of animals (Heath, 1965; Stevenson, 1985). Ehleringerand Forseth (1980) showed that the leaves of many plants change their orientation during the day, maintaining a perpendicular orientation to the sun’s rays, and thereby enhance photosynthesis (rather than mod-ulate body temperature as in lizards).

>>However, water stressed plants reposition their leaves to a vertical ori-entation (Ehleringer and Forseth, 1980), reducing heat gain and thus conserving water.<<
