Fan Wiring Problem - Help!

I just set up my C13. Got everything set except a few minor details. I have a 400 watt HPS cooltube vented by a 235cfm inline blower I got a t a marine parts store. This was working perfectly, the temps rang in b/t 78 and 84 until BAM the fan died.

The fan is spliced to a 12V AC-DC adaptor. 60 Hz. 300 milliAmps.

The fan itself says the following:

12Volts DC. Amps 4.3. Fuse size = 7amps.

I plugged it into a regular power strip that was plugged into the wall. It was plugged right next to the HPS on the powerstrip and the light ran just fine. The fan stopped and the adaptor part got very hot....

Clearly I have done something wrong.... Please advise!!!!!

Thanks ~Z

Update: Someone told me that "300ma supply and 4.3 amps draw" is my problem.... he said the transformer is prolly fried...

Given this, what can I use to wire up this fan safely and effectively...

Also, would the fan run faster when it gets the appropriate amount of current?

yea, your underkillin it, fried the dc adaptor it sounds, try somthing with a higher amp rating. i believe you can go over the suggested amp rating just not over the fuse rating.
somthing between 4.3 and 7 amps at 12 volts dc is where you wanna be.

Ok.... but what pulls that... the little adaptors all say mA not A.... or am I wrong? I will try it nonetheless!

Especially since Radio Shack told me that I would have to hook it to a power supply that costs 100 bucks... at that price I'll buy a fucking new fan... problem is... I CAN'T I am maxed out for now!

i dunno about what would put out that much, standard dc adaptors wouldnt be what you want, most of em wouldnt even come close to what you need. for reference my computer uses 2.06 amps for the monitor and computer. wish i could give ya more help, when i get home ill browse ebay and see if i can find somthin that would work maybe. what about a dc powersupply(like the opposite of the car cig lighter socket to ac kinda thing)? im not sure what kinda power those things put out but they are relativly cheap these days...

i checked ebay, try searching for dc power supply, additionaly you could add the word amp to the search to cut out some of the stupid stuff(like cell phone chargers and such) that might show up. it should show quite a few above 4 amps. they would run ya between 50 and 100 including shipping. id suggest returning the fan and get somthing with the powersupply built in. maybe a prewired dayton blower or a vortex inline. good luck to ya.
