Fan Talk, Vortex V & S Series anyone?

I was wondering if anyone has experience with the Vortex V series line?

how about the S-line? Looks like a stellar design and decent specs.

I have the 12" V series and have yet to install it. Ordered the 16" V series, upfront payment a factory special order with a 1+ month lead time. After the 12" V series arrived I realized how large the fan actually is. Looks like an airplane jet engine! The 16" should arrive anytime now, Im excited to see if this thing will do the job. Vortex hasnt let me down yet. Out of all the vortex fans Ive purchased in the past, maybe 20 or so. Ive only had one that was off balance and noisy, due to a 8' fall to the floor. Im hoping I didnt blow my cooling budget on a jet engine that wont fly, lol...

Good luck w/ them!
Looking @ the S-line for my next fan. Vortex has always been good to me.
I was being cheap and bought an Active Air, it's noisy.

yea Im really after the quiet operation. I dont know of any other fans that are more quiet. Anyone? The 12" blowing 2050 cfms max decibels @ 53... the 16" blasting 4515 cfms maxing 60 decibels. I plan on insulating them with dynamat or something similar to see how quiet they can be.

V series seem similar to Can Maxfans but why only a 3 year warranty?

S series seem similar to TD-Silent S&P

No. I dont see what the V series has common with the maxfan. Maxfan doesnt have the cfms.

14" maxfan 1823 cfm 604$

12" vortex 2050 cfm 601$

The 14" vortex almost has twice the cfms of the maxfan of the same size. ..

Also the V series does have a 10 year warranty ...

True, it does have more cfm. Most places I've looked at online say 3 year warranty, including the one you posted in your first post. It's one of the main reasons I haven't bought one yet. If it really is 10 then I may consider getting the 12".

Watts,

Yea I noticed some say 3 years on the warranty. That would still be fine with me to be honest. After three years it will have served me well. I could not find ANY fans that could give me the cfms for the price vortex does. If you can buy more fans for the same cfm equivalent you will have a super load fan system that will sound like an airport tarmac.
A good thing to try is insulating these fans with dynamat or similar, this is what most are selling us as silent fans basically. ..

My question is how can they basically double the cfms from the 14" to the 16"? that was my deciding factor to grab the 16" fan. Ended up getting it for 1500 bucks, I couldnt find that price anywhere.

It's a surface area thing. 14" fan has about 153 sq. in. surface area. A 16" fan has 201 sq. in. It's a 30% increase in area and that's a big factor in going from 2905cfm to 4515cfm, but also a larger motor, more energy, bigger fan blades... it make sense I think.

Still loud mfing fans though, and at that size, you're going to have a pretty hard time finding carbon filters rated that high.

More RPM more CFM...

Still loud mfing fans though,
Really? Are you familiar with decibel ratings?

A cheap fan x poor installation can easily be louder than these fans.

LOL, fer sure.

I havent really thought about scrubbing with these fans really. I have two brand new carbon filters sitting around just havent given it much thought..
How about:
Fan in another room(attic perhaps) connected passively
(no ducting)with multiple carbon filters to compensate for the CFM load and surface area... Like pulling in fresh air to a room and placing a filter on the passive intake, only with carbon filters..

I am familiar with decibels and sound, I assume your question was rhetorical and intentionally demeaning to improve your perceived social standing on an internet forum.

Actually, I sell these fans. As well as the S-Lines, and Active Air, Valueline, Ecoplus, Hurricane, Elicent, CANFAN, Fantech, Advanced, and WindKing. The new Phresh fans should hit the scene shortly. I have gone beyond reading advertising and decibel ratings. I have plugged them in and heard them compare one against another. No matter how you shake it, moving that much air makes a very impressive amount of "wooshing" and perhaps the fan motor itself isn't more than 60db, but the damn things do sound like jet engines to me. That's the nature of the game though.

Elicent's are hands down the quiest fans I have right now. In the lower end, 6" and 8", they are killing it. Especially when coupled with insulated ducting and a duct muffler/silencer. The S-Line fans are insulated and their mixed flow dual impellers definitely help with the noise from the air itself, so they are pretty quiet too. But the wattages on those fans can get a little crazy with the 6" pulling only 66w to the 8" 232w. The 12" is en route eventually but it was smart not to wait around for that one.

Maybe... I'm not sure how effective it would be... but better than nothing.

My only other idea, and it's not a very good one, would be to get a Y-duct adapater to step down from 16" to two 14" ducts and connect to the filters that way. I'm no HVAC specialist so I'm not sure how the air resistance would work out but that's probably workable also.

I like how the S-line has a built in backdraft damper or whatever it is. Seems especially good for intake fan.

Wow, you took that kinda hard bro. Remember this is the internet and its often hard to convey feelings and actual sentiments when typing a message. You seemingly twisted it into something personal, taking away from what I was getting at...

Thanks for sharing your personal experience with these fans. Much appreciated and also what I was looking for. So have your tested these fans in a grow room setup or just plugging them in and listening to each one? Decibel meter perhaps at various distances? I would think a Db meter would be a good tool to have if I was selling fans. Possibly just my affinity to have a meter for something, and trying to quantify everything..

Light Heartedly,

FE

I looked for months on end for the very best last year and ended up with the CAP 8-12" valulines. Beats out all those expensive premium fans in back to back tug of war tests. Some tell me they don't last, well mine sure has! :D

What do you mean? Its lasted a year?
Why would you post any of that? That makes no sense!
A vortex should be able to run nonstop for at least 10 years. Thats why they are warrantied for 10. Im sure they will last longer than that.
