fan speed controllers are NOT safe

Hi guys
I keep hearing about people slowing down the speed of their fans with the help of a dimmer or even rheostats. According to my source from cannabisculture, If you use anything else than the built-in speed controller chances are you might overheat the motor and it could cause a fire. Apparently the only safe way to do it is if using variable hertz controller which is expensive but maybe someone can post a DIY on how to built one ourselves.
thats it for now so be safe and remember this as it might save your life at some point.

Thats why people use solid state speed controllers (SSSC's) instead of dimmers. You can get them for under $30 at alot of places. Router speed controllers will also work safely.

rheostat (rē'əstăt') , device whose resistance to electric current depends on the position of some mechanical element or control in the device. Typically a rheostat consists of a resistance element equipped with two contacts, or terminals, by which it is attached to a circuit: a fixed contact at one end and a sliding contact that can be moved along the resistance element. Electric current enters and leaves the resistance element through the contacts. By moving the sliding contact toward or away from the fixed contact, the length of the resistance element through which the current travels can be decreased or increased. In this way the current through the circuit can be increased or decreased. Rheostats are widely used for such purposes as controlling the speed of electric motors and dimming electric lights, but they have been replaced in many applications by systems based on semiconductor devices that waste far less power.

i bought a cheap one control wizard speed controller ......i almost never dimm it any way ...waste of 30 bucks.....better to just always have one back up ballist and one spare vortex in back up.run the fan 24/7
