Fan recommendations

Alright so I have been reading on this forum as a guest and a member for about 6 months, trying to obtain as much information as possible before going directly into things. I am thinking about purchasing the HTG 400watt cooltube(if there is a better light/deal all information is welcome). I have been reading for the past few weeks on fan choices. The Vortex has a good amount of followers but the noise complaints are giving me second thoughts. I was thinking about getting the six inch vortex pulling through a carbon filter(diy OR Can) pushing through cool tube and exiting the closet. If any one can help me out that would be great

thanks

What are your ambient temps?

What size area are you planning on using?

There are plenty of things you can do to silence the noise of an inline centrifugal fan (vortex, can fan,eco plus, elicent etc.) like :

Build an insulated fan box, this will help silence the noise of the actual fan/motor.

Use oversized and insulated ducting ie; 6" fan gets 8" insulated ducting...not only does this silence the sound of the air wooshing around inside the ducting but also the sound of the air exiting the exhuast side of your ducting. It also cuts down on pressure drops/static pressure.

Install a duct muffler on the exhuast side of your fans ducting. This will cut the percieved sound by 60db's and will not add any pressure drops/static pressure.

Also once a carbon filter has been installed this will drop the noise level of the air wooshing around.

Do all of those methods and you'll have a next to silent fan powered cooling system.

well i will be flowering in a master bedroom closet so the closet is 6 foot wide 3 foot deep and seven tall. i was planning on using insulated ducting and making a box if necessary I was just a little worried because i had read that that still did not make the fan completely silent. but thanks for the reassurance. I was going to purchase the van from ecogrow.com do you have any other sites that have better pricing?

Nothing you do will silence a Vortex. Anyone allowed in the room with the fan WILL know. My Elicent is 5-10 dB quieter than the Vortex, with 7X silencing, it could be heard across the street. What you can do, however, is lock the sound away. If you have a room where no one is ever allowed to enter (attic, basement, secret underground bunker) get the Vortex. For a bedroom grow, you should consider Panasonic Whisperfans or S&P

Well after some serious consideration to your views on the Vortex fans, I had two options today while I had windows replaced in the room the cab and vortex is in.

We 1. could have torn everything apart last night to relocate it to another room.

2. Leave it where it was shut down.

3. Do nothing and let the chips fall where they may.

We picked door number 3. We thought about shutting down since this would have been a simple solution, but the odor was far too strong without the fan and carbon filter running.

Contractors showed up at 9:00am, and just finished up at 4:30pm. These people were less than three feet from the fan, and heard nothing. I have the fan wrapped in in insulated foam with a box around it, then the cab it's self. The loudest part was the old vent lines till we replaced them with vynal 6" ducting. Between the air exchanger and the dehumidifier they had a hard time even hearing themselves talk.

So like I said, it is all how you set things up.
