Fan noise

Guest

1. speed controller
2. bigger openings = less air rushing noise
3. some soundproofing/dampening foam
4. have some other ambient noise covering them up.......fish tanks come to mind
5. if you have too much money, a metal muffler custom made for the fan

lol.. im going for the speed controller and some soundproofing. i have to avoid covering the intake of the fan. correct?

ive got a speed controller on my inline fan and it makes it buzz terribly at lower speeds-well it buzzes whatever speed when wired to the controller but at full speed its inaudible over the sound of the airflow, so bear that in mind....Like you though im ging to soundproof hopefully, using eggbox type insulating foam lining a box which the fan sits inside....

Same here. My speed controller makes the fan go really slow and buzz until it gets near the end of the dial, then it rapidly speeds up for a slight turn.

Once I got the right setting it covered up most of the noise (Vortex 6" 449cfm).

Irish listed about all the options. Make sure if have adequate intake space otherwise it puts back pressure on the fan which makes extra noise. Sound proofing is a good idea, I've seen people build boxes with foam on the sides to put their fan in. Mufflers are available are most home improvement stores if you are willing to spend $75+. They are pretty large too, like 10" in diameter and 2-3' long.

I run two Stanley's in a insulated cab with the exhaust running to my furnace room. I can't hear them over the sound of my cheap room fan on low. Now thats quiet! They run high speed most of the time and they are just quiet. The air they exhaust is what make's the most noise.

The Intake will also make some noise. Just insulate that as well. No problem. I use to use multiple CPU fans from radio shack running at 90cfm each. Those things made more noise then the blowers.

Hey you need good speed conroler
As I can see nobody hawe but from what i hawe learned
and throved many to garbage is
that you need speed controler like regulated transformator
and you regulate the voltage output how you want
more voltage more rpm it can work wery low rpm and newer make noise
it can also regulate speed in smallest steps it is best thing out there.
it is transformator what hawe buton on him you turn buton and
he changes voltage my also hawe digital desplay of voldage coming
out it cost 100$ and can regulate 2.5 amp 5oow fans wat is a lot
power. :lurk: :lurk:
