Anyone running a fan noise reducer like this

My fantech is quiet but just not enough. I know its not the fan but the movement of air. I guess these act like a muffler on a car. but want to know if they are worth the money.

Here's an easy DIY muffler http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=65345&highlight=muffler

I followed directions as closely as my local Home Depot allowed. Works great. A huge reduction in noise but, does NOT provide stealth. There was still noise even after insulated ducting, fan isolation box and speed control.

Someone just posted the other day on doubling the insulated ducting. Stuff your 4" ducting into 6" ducting or your 6" into 8" etc.

I tried the DIY muffler a while back and it really didn't help me much. I shelled out the money for an actual inline muffler (I ordered it from BGHydro) and it works really well. If you've got $100 laying around it's a great way to go. If you've got more like $20 laying around the DIY one works well for a lot of people.

Just like a car muffler, it goes at the end of the exhaust system. At least that's where mine went.

I use a 8" duct muffler with my vortex blower. You can use them downstream or upstream of your blower. They work great. I use mine upstream due to my duct arrangement.

I just hang my inline fans by those rubber bungee cords and use the ducting with the insulation around it and my loudest fans are my wall mounted occilating fans
