Fan controller wiring help .. w/pic !!

So I just got a fan controller ( solid state 5A should be sufficient )today for my 8" vortex and I want to be sure I'm wiring it correctly so I don't kill myself or anything like that.. That would suck.

I have included a pic of the two and their wires and such. Now I figure I remove the reds from the harness and connect them to the reds on the controller and them wire nut em. And remove the ground from the harness in the fan box and connect it to the green coming from the fan controller. Now is this right?

I read some other threads and I think what I'm seeing is people are cutting into their ac cords? is that necessary? I feel doing it from the black box on the fan would make it much simpler.

HELP!!

one red wire on the speed controller goes to your electrical cord and the other red goes to the fan... the green hooks to the ground of the electrical cord and the controller

So I take the green from the terminal and connect to the green on the controller. Then take red and connect it to the black/white also coming from the cord. THen take another red and connect to which of the red wires coming form the fan?

Sorry...i Just dont want to kill my fan.

Take the black wire that enters the box from your power cord, remove it from the terminal block and twist it to one red wire on the controller, then take the other red wire from the controller and connect it to the terminal block where the black wire used to be. Attach the green ground wire to the terminal block with the other ground wires, loosen a nut, slide it under and re-tighten. This keeps everything grounded. Use a wire nut to hold the twisted wires together and insulate them. The wire your tapping into is the hot wire. This is how I would wire it. Stay safe.

Alright... I'm gonna wire it up as you say and fire it up.... I may post pic when done to see if everything is hunky dory.

Not sure about the hum. I just run mine wide open, no controllers. Bump the thread later on if no one chimes in with an idea. Peace

try turning power on with the fan controller in its max/full speed condition/setting and then lower the speed from there... this might alieviate some of the humming wich is a fuction of the controller doing what you ask it do ...
