Fan Controller-where to put temperature probe?

I have just bought a fan controller so i can keep it at 25 degrees but i'm not sure where o put the temperature probe.
Should it be level with the plant tops or above the light?
Should the probe be directly in the light or in the shade?
If the probe is in the flow of a fan would this affect the temp reading?

many thanks,

I hang it down between my hoods & let it dangle at canopy level .

I always dropped it into the canopy. I would also make a little "Chinese hat" from thick mylar(like the diamond stuff or the other stuff with the lightproof white backing) to go over the probe and keep any direct light and heat off it.

I like that. :) Paper with some aluminum foil on it works well also. (never could afford mylar... yet.) lol
