Fact or Fiction-24 hours darkness prior to harvest increases resin

Hey again all, I've read several places that many growers give their plants 24 hours of darkness prior to harvest, and state that it makes buds a little more resinous. Anybody try this? Truth to it? How were your results? I tried searching the forum/threads, but didn't find anything, but I'm sure someone must have asked this before.
Thanks,
Skin

I tried it once during my first grow 6 or so years ago. That I haven't repeated it should be some indication of how effective I thought it was.

i've seen various times given, from 1 to 3 days
it does make some sense, light breaks down thc and if the plant has enough energy to continue to make more resin, that could be a winning deal
i've tried 24 hours, seemed about the same to me

I always put my finished plants in total darkness for a week or so, I let them slowly dry out in the pots, for me personally its more about cure than trichome production, after about a week i bring them in, the Mrs. manicures them, then i cut the stalks and rehang them in the dark, It averages about 52 degrees in the shed. It seems to me that slowing down the drying out process in the beginning helps with taste, and I do think it develops more sticky in the process, sometimes i even give them a cup of water mid week. this is just the way i do it.

If it did work, I would think more than 24 hours is required. I do not think the plant can just kick out a bunch of resin that quick.

I don't think it does anything from my limited experience, but there is definitely something to be said once again for letting the plant do some of its drying and curing before you even chop it.

A lot of people I know perform a " 48 hour dark flush " which is supposed to draw the majority of the salts and such back into the roots and give you a cleaner smoke and therefore a faster cure time.

For me, the best results have been when the plant was well watered before the dark period and with temps never below 60 degrees.

Results may vary for everyone, some things you just have to try for yourself but to the best of my knowledge its not gonna pump out anymore resin due to darkness. I'm not 100% sure but thought that resin production was based on how ripe the flower was which is best told by color of trichs. That does not mean there is not a method that could alter this.....
