extremely hypothetical question...

Suppose you cured cancer and AIDS.

Suppose after that, you violently took a life, and vowed never to do it again.

Should you go to jail or not?

Why or why not?

(yes, I was really high when I thought about this one. Saw an OJ Simpson thing, then started thinking 'I wonder if there is any situation in which you could admittedly get away with murder')

It depends. Are they black? Hispanic? Wealthy enough to hire a powerful criminal attorney? THere are too many variables!

nope, no matter what you cure the law is the law, regarding things like blatant murder. now if you are defending your life, then thats a different story.

Yes, that person should go to jail. If that person violently murdered someone in your family, would you decide that it was OK and that they should be set free because they cured cancer and AIDS?

I don't think so.

I can't answer this question. I really have no answer. I don't think either side is 100% completely right.

The utilitarian philosophy to this is "he did the 'greater good'", which would probably be more opposed to this electric chairing of him
The maxim philosophy would be "if all people were to kill people after curing a ton of people"... which would make this completely justified in taking his life in court.

Cure cancer or aids? Blah, no free kills for you. Bring the X-Files back to TV with the original cast and you can kill whoever you want.

You know, but saving millions of people, you're worsening the living conditions of everyone on the planet collectively through overuse of resources and lack of livable space. So it's really a toss up. Personally, I don't value any humans life over the life of say... my cat. Life is life, and the only species that thinks human life is special is of course, humans. Funny, that. There are far too many people on this planet already and we, as a species, need to be trimmed back some.

What happens when the guy you cured of cancer decides to celebrate at the bar by getting drunk with his buddies, he decides to drive home. On the way home he slams head on into your wife and kids on their way back from the movies. And everyone is dead. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
