Here is some pics of what my soil mix is made up of, what the mixture looks like after mixing, and how I go about doing my transplanting. If you notice nearly all of the root mass is concentrated at the bottom of the cup. I have seen an extrodinary amount of stalk thickness after such. This method really makes a huge difference in my opinion.

Hey Mossy, how goes it? Anyways, I believe the sudden rush of oxygen, and the root space now available cause this explosion is stalk thickness and over-all growth of the plant. I will post some pics of these plants later, and I will show you guys the thickness, its crazy, but it works great. You have to watch for soil dryness/moisture real close.

How did you make such a nice hole in the new container?

Did you stick the cup in and fill around it with soil, then remove the cup?

Great results!! I'm guessing that the roots overground can breathe while the lower mass and new roots can pick up available nutes... like a smorgasboard you don't have to sacrifice one for the other due to soil moisture it can eat and breathe at the same time...?

Watering ideed can be tricky. Water as usual and then be sure to water the soil above ground as well, so that it is all watered evenly. This top part of exposed soil can dry-out easier ofcourse, that is why its not for everyone, I have actually seen plants put much, much lower into the soil after transplanting. Im going to stick with this for now.

I was just transplanting this way today, after peeping at you...

The more I think about it, the more sense it makes...

Thanx, Mdanzig!

The only thing I am wondering about here, is what would be the results if you just transplanted into a bigger bowl, since you basically are taking up as much space as a much larger pot when you do this.

anybody try this with coco or starting in 16 oz cups vs. 44 oz cups? do i transplant whenever it's rootbound? going to try this soon, looks weird but i'll give it a shot. got some 2 gal. smart pots waiting for them.

I bought 20 and only 12 germed. :frown::wallbash: I got 9 females so far. I started them in 5 gallon buckets and there huge. It seems like when you start a autoflower in a restricted space. The side branching suffers. My s60's are looking good and so are the side branches. this is my last venture with auto's until the spring. Its more efficient to do 12/12 strains indoors.
