Ok so ive been lookin around and i cant find dampers anywhere round my area. I need one bad, but i dont know what specific kind i need..... My intake is hooked up to the outdoors, and when its off, the outside wind current actually reverses the fan and pulls smell out of the room. So i just need some type of 6 inch (possibly spring loaded?) damper that will allow air to move only in one direction. But i need it to be super sealed when is not in use. Can anyone refer me to some ideas on where i can get this item locally and fast? I also need to know the name of the damper i need. Is it a 6inch inline spring loaded butterfly damper that i need? pls help, thx

You need a backdraft damper. Suncourt is a good cheap brand for mechanical dampers. I have just been researching all this stuff myself for the last 3 hours lol.

smurf,

if you cannot locate one locally..any hydro shop should be able to order you one.

Can Filters Group makes a butterfly one. Runs you around 30-40$.
There are also Zonemaster dampers from hydro shops which are electronically actived for around $90-100. Not sure how to wire, but know that can be hooked up to your fan to open close when fan is on / off.

on the other hand.. why not just run the fan 24/7. I doubt it uses much juice to really NEED to turn it off.

EDIT - just re read your post and see your talking about your main room intake. I assume things get too cold when light are out and fan stays on. I was just assuming you were talking about your ac light intakes.

I forget if it was the zonemaster damper or the can filters one, (i've seen them both) but one of them was very sealed when closed as the butterfly came down and smacked against some gasket material.

peace
