Expected Yield under optimum conditions, indoor cabinet

I'm planning on Scrogging Moby Dick under a 400w HPS.

The exact dimensions of my cabinet is 2x4x7, with 2 feet of clone/mother room under CFLs, and approx 4 feet of veg/flower under the HPS.

I've been reading up on scrogging quite extensively, and have seen mixed opinions on screen space per plant, I can fit 8x5 gallon grow containers quite easily in the cabinet, I'm just looking to optimize my yield by either number of plants or scrog area.

Has anyone had any similar results with this setup? Opinions on the amount of plants for the space!

The limiting factor is not the light, but rather the dimensions of your space. More specifically, you are probably not going to be able to adequately cover the 4' width of your cab with a 400w light. For best coverage you would want to mount your bulb so that it is perpendicular to the front of the cab, but this is pretty hard to achieve with only 2' of depth. Personally, I would just use 2.5" to 3' of the width and count on getting some reflection off the sides.

You might want to look into what I call a "mini bush SOG" - LSTed plants packed in so that they each take up 1 square foot. You could do 6 plants (2 deep x 3 across) in 2-3 gallon pots or 4 on larger pots depending on how long you want to veg. I've gotten my best yields with my cab using this method. I have never ScroGed but I have to think that this method is the equal to ScroG as it achieves an even canopy, but is easier as the plants can be removed.

Simon describes how to produce these types of plants in the following thread.

With good clones and some skills I think you could probably get close to 2oz per plant growing 2 deep 3 across or 2.5 oz per plant growing 2 deep 2 across with larger pots. I typically grow from seed and have had some 4oz plants in 4.1 gallon pots took up 1.25 square feet. I've never grown 4 such plants at the same time though and I've certainly had plants that took up the same space and only yielded 1.5 oz (or maybe even less).

Would it be smart to switch to a 600w hps?

All else equal you would definitely pull more out of the cab with 600w, but it would be more difficult to keep cool, use more electricity, and require more vertical space so all else might not be equal.

Using a scrog you dont neccisarily need more plants,Search NBG, the guy pulled 1 pound of 1 plant with a 400 I believe the screen was 3x3 with a 60 day veg time,I dont know if it was hydro or soil but impressive nonetheless
