Exhaust help..

PARADOX

Active member
Hello

I'm running a 600w mh/hps lamp in a 4x4x5.5 box. i have a 4 inch intake that runs from the outside of the house to the box to feed it with fresh air. Right now i do not have a fan connected to the intake line but rather a small room fan infront of the intake to slowly draw fresh air. The exhaust line is also 4 inches and at the top of the box connected with a 200 cfm vortex/carbon filter combo.
I have been running the fan non stop and keeping the temps at around 25-30 degrees celcius. Is it ok to run these types of vortex fans non stop? and What could i do to help keep the temps in check so i can put the fan on a timer to not having it run full blast 24/7..?

any help would kick ass!

cheers

You're choking the cab. Minimum intake is double the exhaust. For a single 4" exhaust, you'll want at least two 4" intakes. Some here swear by 4X the exhaust.

Unless you're a ventilation expert, avoid intake fans. You can't pump out more than you pump in BUT, you can pump in more than you pump out. That's positive pressure and intake fans are the sole cause. Until you've studied up, keep your intakes passive and limit your fan to the exhaust.

im going to stick with the room fan in front of the intake lines.. it sucks a small amount of air from the intake and blows fresh air around the room. I hope this will do

2X exhaust and no intake fans is "Ventilation for Dummies." But, it works! If you want to play with positive pressure generators try Ventilation 101 Many use intake fans but, it's not a good solution for dummies (like me). You need to know your stuff.
