Exhaust and intake, how big of a hole, where, what supplies/parts, analyze my room...

So I've got a 2.5ft by 6.5ft plywood "room" built inside a closet, the "face" of room is panda poly 6mil. There is another grow room which will be built using the remaining closet space. It will be slightly smaller, and be used for veg (though the current "flowering room" is being used for vegging right now...). The ventilation will go through both rooms, ie they will be "connected".

I've got a 400 watt CMH, housed in a super sun 2 reflector (6" holes). I'm going to be using a 10" vortex fan, with a fan controller to dial it down a little so I can sleep at night.

I'm likely to use either a "CAN" carbon filter, or go DIY, carbon filter will likely be stored in the other "room" (veg room).

So I need to know what all I will need to put my ventilation together, I figure I'll need:

Adapter (not sure what the technical name is) to take my 10" vortex down to 6" to mate with the super sun reflector.

Ducting, I'm thinking 6 inch ducting, as the port on the super sun reflector is 6".

Any and all other parts needed to mate the reflector to the ducting, parts needed to mount the fan, hole saw to put a hole in my plywood, etc.

Obviously I still need a carbon filter...

Any and all suggestions on what parts I'll need I'm happy to recieve.

As far as the actual placement of all this stuff goes...

Where is the best place to put my 10" vortex fan?

I take it my exhaust for the 6.5ft flowering room should be near the top of the room, and connecting to the "veg room", and the intake should be near the bottom?

What about reflector? How should I go about this? Should I duct both ends, or leave 1 end open with just a "filter cap"?

I got a pretty powerful fan, so I think I could probably use "Y adapters" if needed.

Again, the main things I need in my "vent loop" flow chart...

Super sun 2 reflector (6")
Carbon filter
Intake
Exhaust
Vortex 10" fan

I just need to know the better way of going about making this happen...

hmmmm looks like that fan is serious overkill.....I've got one 8' fan exhausting 6 x 600 watts. You'll definately need a speed controller to throttle your vortex fan waaay down....

I'm not sure where you were looking to exhaust to but its gotta be outside of the closet all together, you don't want that heat circulating around in that small space. I'd probably suggest using a stanley blower or dayton fan for your setup but if your set on using that beast of a fan here's how i'd do it. You'll need a 10"x8"x8" reducing Y and two 8"x6" reducers this will split your exhaust fan into 2 six in ports. Then using 6" flexible duct id attach one end to you reflector in the flowering room and I'd attach a small carbon filter to the other end of the reflector. Something like this....

The other side of the exhaust output id use to vent the veg area, you may or may not need a carbon filter depending on how pungent you plants are....what type of wattage do you have in the veg area?? Also where were you planning to vent all of the air from the closet??

Well, I wanted to be able to dial it way down so it would be quiet in my room, figure more diameter means less db at the same CFM of a smaller fan, if it's dialed down.

I could go with a smaller fan, but I wanted to get something that'd be real quiet.

There's no way to just go from 10 inches down to 6 inches in one step?

If so, there's nothing stopping me from going with an 8" vortex instead...

I don't think there is a duct reducer to go from 10"-6" if there is Im sure its pretty hard to find. Since you haven't bought the equipment I'd look into getting a small bathroom fan...I think I saw a thread on here about a whisper panasonic fan that was supposedly pretty silent and willl be better suited for your needs.

I'd also look into that panasonic whisper fan for your application. A lot of people said a lot of good things about it. Sometimes when you dial those fans down really low you'll get a buzzing too and it's also important to match the cfm of your fan to your carbon scrubber since the air needs a little contact time with the carbon to work effectively and when you're speed controlling you really don't know what cfm your moving so then you'll want a larger carbon scrubber to be safe. So you're looking at extra money on a larger fan, reducers, speed controller, possibly a larger than necessary carbon filter. I have no experience with the fan personally but here is a link to the thread on it

and here's a website I found them in cfm ratings from 80-380cfm

Good luck!
