evolution of man and of robot intertwined - just thought of this

okay I was just telling someone we didn't evolve and branch out from the other apes just to sit at a desk 9-5 mon-fri. That role would be best filled by a robot. And I think that we're approaching a time (next few centuries) when man will be faced with the ultimate decision to replace human workers with robots. Well hell - look at any factory - it's all automated. So the main industrial things like textiles, metals etc are already being done by robots. The final evolution of this process is replacing ALL work and making it so nobody ever has to work, and robots do everything while people live out a somewhat-hedonistic life but still in a society
This is the goal. Nobody should work - we have the technology and the means to make it so everyone can do whatever they want and not have to worry about food or housing or medicine, etc.

LOL! This thread made me think of Charlie and the chocolate factory when dudes dad lost his job screwing the caps on toothpaste to a robot.

I think this is a terrible idea as one of the most rewarding feelings is a sense of accomplishment. Humans would have nothing to brag about or be known at being good at something.

The idea scares me

Yeah with a robot cop watching every helpless, hopeless Human. Humans stripped of their ability to do anything for themselves. At that point whoever controls the robots who do all of the work will control the lives of the impotent people who have allowed themselves to be placed in a position of complete dependence upon and subservience to technology.

Sounds awesome, sign me up!

O Adam, Adam! No longer will you return to Paradise, where you were nourished by the hand of God. You will be free and supreme; you will have no other task, no other work, no other cares, than to perfect your own being. You will be the master of creation.

Domin, there as something good in the act of serving, something great in humility. Oh, Harry, there was some kind of virtue in work and fatigue.

No work -> No paycheck.
No paycheck -> No consuming.
No consuming -> No need for products.
No need for products -> No need for robots.

Problem solved?

If robots produced everything they wouldn't need to get payed... Everything would be free, so long as nobody gets too greedy...Ha.

Unrealistic utopia IMO. It's not in human nature to do so. I do believe however, that the "have's" will take an evolutionary step with genetic modification and the assimilation of computers/internet with nanotechnology. People will be integrated with computers in the next few hundred years. Unfortunately I think it's going to only be for people with the money to do so. Economic disparity will become evolutionary disparity.
