so none of them are worthy of our support just cause there's a couple bad apples mixed in?

The best way the US public can support their troops is to call for their return home, so that they could smoke bowls like us instead of being sniped in the head because of some fucked up corporates' lust for oil & money. The US gov doesn't give a fuck about their troops in Iraq. The perks received by the private contractors and the perks received by the troops (despite the fact that they may share similar functions on the ground) tells the tale in bold letters.

oh i agree, i support them, it's just that most people see them as angels and blindly support them for little or no reason.

dont get me wrong, im just trying to bring a little awareness to the fact that american soilders are just as screwed up as the rest of them.

yeah, war has always equaled money. :fsu:

A local towtruck driver slapped a "I support the war on Peace" sticker on His truck, I read that, and told Him about it, and He said..."I'm just being patriotic"...

Man, that Guy had no clue...

Any idea of the percentage of totall assholes in the Armed Forces compared to the percentage of total assholes in the US? On this board?
Perspective, please.

What worries me about thread like this and some of the replies is that you forget that amount of good men and women that are doing good over there and they get looked down on for no reason at all.

My mom was always so hippie like and I remember the Vietnam war and her watching the protests and being so in tune with it all. But she did have 2 cousins over there and one died. It was a tense time but she believe in peace and hated the war.

I remember when it was over and the troops began to come home, many not on their own 2 feet. My mom was watching tv and saw the footage of people, these hippie types that she identified with, spitting on and booing these boys. She cried and cried and I remember her saying "Oh God dont do that, dont do that." That changed my mom, and seeing that and being raised by her makes me feel the same way now.

So, yeah, Support The Troops does not have to mean support the government.

maybe yall need to get a clue......

I used to believe that, but have changed my views. The whole country is falling into civil war, and it's the US's fault. Saddam, the bastard he is, held the region together with an iron fist. Which apparently was required to keep the Sunni's and Shiite from killing each other. And with him not there...

OK, maybe the whole "We broke Iraq" thing is a bit much. We were just the poor bastards who had the "cookie jar" crumble when we picked it up. Which we shouldn't have touched in the first place.

So, in my opinion it comes down to one of 2 strategies. We leave, the region falls into chaos, and in 15-20 years, some asshole flies a couple of planes into skyscrapers, killing thousands of innocents. (Much like when the Russians left Afghanistan, and the CIA was helping Osama Bin Laden to fight the Commies. When they left, we left. And all the promises we made to Osama to help rebuild the country? Yeah, not so much.)

Or, we keep our troops there (and yes, many more will be killed), and help the Iraqi gov't stabalize the region and help what ever form of gov't they want, so we don't create a haven for terrorists. So that in 15-20 years some asshole doesn't fly a couple of planes into skyscrapers, killing thousands of innocents.

I forget who it was, but they likened it to the Pottery Barn's simple rule - You break it, you buy it. We broke, now we gotta fix it. Or in 15-20 years, we'll have an even larger problem on our hands.

And before anyone says, "You must not know anyone over there", I have been to 3 funerals for friends killed over there. And a fourth will have the mental capcity of a 10 year old for the rest of his life.

pomh pretty much hit it right on the money. Supporting the troops does not mean you have to support the war. For the most part they are good guys.

Id give you some k+ pomh but it says I have to spread it around lol.
