I've heard of people making nests up in trees to grow with but the idea I got was that they lugged a lot of soil up, much more than a mason jar.

if the tree was in a spot (like yer own property with good tree cover ) where you could put up a ladder and just take soil and water up the ladder...when finished mo0ve ladder...

First place I ever grew, and the cops found it right away. I'll try and make it short:

At about a young out in CA me and a friend took a piece of plywood into the canyon and made a tree fort in a tree. A pepper tree, (half bush half tree) about 30 feet high. It was impossible to see the plywood deck from any direction, even standing right under the tree looking up, although it had a clear view of the sky while in it.

Then forgot about it for several years. At 17 I went back to that platform and put some plants in it. Took care of them until they were about 2 feet high. I'm standing in my back yard watching a police helicopter circle the area, and part of the circle was right over the tree.

That night carried my usual jug of water up the tree and the plants were gone. Well, they were still there, just cut , stripped of leaves and left for dead.
