ANybody seen plans or heard of an auto height adjusting light so you could leave for a week and not worry about a bunch of burnt up plants?

Just place your light a little higher before you leave. I assume you're using some flavor of fluoros? HID's are normally far enough above plants that it's not a problem...

some timer regulated hoisting device could be made. Or you'll have to rig a photo-cell and motor too do it, but I bet such equipment would be expensive and very advanced....
