I think the Ethylene is used for the ripening of bananas? this other stuff ( from wiki) >>> Ethylene glycol (IUPAC name: ethane-1,2-diol) is an organic compound (a vicinal diol[7]) with the formula (CH2OH)2. It is mainly used for two purposes: as a raw material in the manufacture of polyester fibers and for antifreeze formulations. It is an odorless, colorless, flammable, viscous liquid. It has a sweet taste, but is toxic in high concentrations. This molecule has been observed in outer space.[8]
After going to the website and reading the article, I cannot find any reference to "ethylene glycol" which is antifreeze. They make reference to the use of ethylene,( which is usually in the form of a gas) and used for ripening of fruit. It could also be sourced in liquid form, and is called ethephon.
