Energy Drinks/Suppliments

Anyone ever heard of an energy drink called "5 Hour Energy", or something to that extent?

Wolf tried it a week or 2 ago, and said it kept him energetic & alert like no other. He's tried a lot of the OTC energy drinks & suppliments, but said this one's his new favorite.

I'm not into that kind of stuff, if I need an energy boost, just give me a couple of double espressos back to back---I'll be bursting with energy in about 15 minutes. :biglaugh:

Just curious to know if anyone else has tried it, and what you all take for an energy jolt....

i have tried the 5 hour Drink. Amps a guy up pretty good. My High from it last about 6-8 hours. But then again I am not an energy drink freak. I only take like once or twice a month.

I know for 3 bucks its seems pretty pricey. Think of it this way. A beer and a Shot have about the same amount of alcohol, Yet the shot gets the bad taste over quick and the drunk on faster. I feel its the same idea. I like them because of that idea. I have always hated the taste of energy drinks. This way I just pop it back and I am good for my shift.

energy drinks are evil. taurine decays your heart. i still drink them once in a while, i actually just got a free monster from some chick sitting in a pickup handing those things out for free as a promotion.

my mother works in the medical field and told me about a guy who came to her place with a bad heart, doctors told him all the redbull he drank (multiple drinks per day i believe) had caused some of his heart tissue to deteriorate. he didnt stop drinking the crap and eventually died.. fuck redbull. wouldn't be surprised if trimspa killed anna nicole too, not sure what that garbage does though.

I know alot of people who drink that crap. I personally don't , because I don't think it's good for you( especially your heart), funny thing....My wife and I started drinking that stuff called "Surge". every super market and gas station was marketing it last year(remember drinks like a soda, kicks like an energy drink). After drinking it quite a bit for a bout a month, all of a sudden my wifes in the hospital for three weeks suffering with the most god awful migraine headaches I've personally ever had to witness, strange because my wife's never suffered migraines before..After finally being released we began to examine what factors in our life could have triggered these migraines, and found a an interesting article online about how how all these people were suffering adverse effects(everything from migraines to seziures!!)...well what do ya know...from drinking quanities of "Surge".Ever since that, and I've never touched an energy drink again, I'm with Niki on this one if I need a little pick me up, coffee works just fine for me.I find a good sativa does a much better job of putting spring into my step.

Fr33, those drinks are also loaded with caffeine, too, which in big doses is in no way good for the heart. Most of the medical industry's beef with energy drinks is the higher levels of caffeine.

Think about it---Your average joe drinks 5 or 6 cans of soda a day, has a few cups of coffee, and knocks back 1 or 2 Redbull-type drinks---It's certainly caffeine overload.

^^Now where the hell did I read that......I want to quote my source, but I can't remember where I read it anymore.....

Witch, I don't think that was Surge......Surge has been off the US market for a while now, and I haven't been able to find anyone in foreign countries that have it....I know what you're talking about though, it's a new "energy soda" from Coca-Cola....What the hell is the name of that crap? I tried it, it was nasty shit.....Didn't get past spitting out the first sip....

EDIT:
Vault, it's called Vault. That crap is just so gross....

Never heard of the "5 Hour" brand.
I've tried Red Bull once cause I was falling asleep driving trying to get home after a 14hr flight. It did wake me up, but I think the taste is horrible.

I'm with Nik on the dopio espresso. I bought a really nice machine and grinder a few years back and went from drinking 2 pots brewed coffee to maybe 3 latte's a day.

all of those energy drinks make the back of my jaw hurt (almost like lockjaw too)...i have no clue why, but its only the energy drinks that do it ...regular pop doesn't do it and I drink quite a bit of mtn. dew

...and then there was nelly's "pimp juice" ...is that shit still around...LOL

I drink about 1 per day, which can and does get expensive for me. I'd prefer to just make a french press of some ethiopian, but sometimes I'm lazy..
Sucks to hear about the whole heart deal..I should probably stop.

I think it was about 5 or so years ago when they really started becoming popular. redline has to be one of the strongest i've tried. i also used to be into competitive BB and i've used alot on and off the market. long story short... all those energy drinks are bad for you and your body.. mainly your heart/liver/pancreas. and to make this matter even worse.... the alcoholic drinks made out of these now are in every store you go to.. and i unfortunately got hooked on these pretty good like. sparks +, rockstar 21, tilt 8% to name a few. i used to buy one of those a day. pretty good up feeling with the 8.0% buzz. lol the most fucked up part is. they have the same shit in them. they are worse for you and cost half as much as those kids drinks do. lol. basically if you have about 100,000.00 laying around and you want to start mixing soda water with crap and canning it.. you might have a chance of making it. but as you can see... there are shit tons of other people already doing that as that list points out. lol... our poor little planet. taking the brunt of our insanity. :chin: i give say 10 more years max. before the earth really starts putting on a show fer us. spooky.

In 2001, the drink was investigated by the Swedish National Food Administration after being linked to the deaths of three consumers. It has been subject to a number of other health concerns regarding glucuronolactone, a precursor of taurine. Sale of Red Bull as a normal soft drink is prohibited in Denmark, Norway, France, Uruguay and Iceland . Due to the link with taurine, local authorities categorized Red Bull as a medicine and suggest customers ask for medical advice before drinking. Because of this, only energy drinks without taurine are sold in France. The official imported Canadian Red Bull is a caffeinated version of Thai Krating Daeng. Until late 2004, its sale was prohibited in Canada. Now a can must carry a warning label that says:

Cautions: Contains caffeine. Not recommended for children, pregnant or breast-feeding women, caffeine sensitive persons or to be mixed with alcohol. Do not consume more than 500 mL per day.

However, no such warning label is present on cans sold in the UK, though people who consume the beverage in excess (more than 2-5 250 mL tins in a 24-hour period) have been known to express discomfort, such as nausea, diarrhoea, stomach pains, gas, light green urine color, sleeplessness and/or fatigue when caffeine effect wears off.

British supermarket chain Morrisons refuses to sell Red Bull to customers under the age of 16. In Finland, some shops only sell 1 canister of the drink at a time to under 18 year olds. Attempting to buy 2 canisters or more requires customers to prove their age, as if they were buying alcoholic beverages.

Doctors and nutritionists have warned of the dangers of mixing caffeine and alcohol in excessive quantities. Their warnings, however, are often unheeded as many people feel that the benefits of mixing Red Bull with alcohol far outweigh the risks and use stimulants such as caffeine in order to avoid getting drowsy while drunk. Mixing Red Bull with alcohol (most commonly Vodka and Jägermeister) has become increasingly popular among college-aged crowds and club goers. Heavier drinkers of alcoholic Red Bull drinks have cited "euphoric feelings." At least one researcher has asserted that mixing adepressant with an energy drink can lead to abnormal heart rhythms and future heart problems.

The director of biomaterials research at the University of Maryland Dental School in Baltimore found the most wear to tooth enamel occurred, in descending order, from exposure to lemonade, energy drinks (especially those with citric acid such as Red Bull), sports drinks, fitness water, iced tea and cola.

The main ingredient in Red Bull that purportedly provides energy is taurine, a substance that was first found within the bile of an ox in 1827 by German scientists Friedrich Tiedemann and Leopold Gmelin; however, taurine that is used commercially is produced synthetically.

yup bad for you I wouldn't drink them unless you really need to, like if you have to drive and you're tired.

that shit gives you direhea and it always makes my stomache upset. also so overpriced.

they sell the pimp juice around here, I haven't tried it, I read the back though and it says something like apple juice/ grape juice/ caffeine = pimp juice

I don't think it sells very well. I would laugh at whover drinks pimp juice.
