energy company getting wise?

this has been something that has been worrying me for some time, i currently have 2 - 400 watt lights going, and i recently acquired a third light which is 600 watts. which would bring my total to 1400 watts per day how much should i be worried about all that wattage as far as my energy company is concerned? anybody have any insight?

well, considering that an electrical kettle (water boiler for coffee or tea) is sucking electricity in between 2000W - 3000W every time you turn it on i think you are OK.

1400 watts is nothing unless maybe you are in a very small studio apt then it might raise a few eyebrows if your bill goes up too much. I guess it all depends on your normal usage in the past but 1400 watts is really not much at all in the grand scheme of things for growing. Just keep it a secret and you should be just fine man! :canabis:

The power company is typically contacted after you are already on the radar. Be careful and pay your bill on time and there shouldn't be any problems, after all the power company wants to get paid too.

Your "energy" company is in the business of selling energy not busting grow ops

Pay your bill, they wont even notice you

a warning from a freind who is involved with how some things are run says that a increase of 50.00 n more out of the blue always raises an eyebrow. so it helps to mask the increase with the season change or something like that.

In BC, the RCMP are given full unfettered access to everybody's hydro records, without warrant or subpoena.

But as has been said, OP, you're really not running that much juice.

Not to hijack, but I'd imagine Babylon knows about 18/6 and 12/12. Wouldn't they look for those kinds of patterns more than total usage?

My guess is that if the power company is looking for patterns (like 12/12) they are probably looking for really big spikes rather than 1400w.

1400w could be any number of things that might have the same schedule as a grow op.

thats nothing champ!, you need to get a couple more lights going , here is a dtory about water my step dad lives alone, use paper plates, only flush's down when its brown , and barely showers more then 5 min a day, if he even showers everyday, so they came down to replace his h20 meter, cause his bill was so low thought he was cheating them, since the new meter they have been back to check and still aren't convinced he hardly use's his h20 , so moral of this story is use as much as you want, just dont use too little

Yeah that is a legitamate little Operation you got there, expecialy if your in an area where the plant is legal or medicinal....

Use a little extra power on another light, increased air circulcation, air stones pump, whatever... just try to stay keen on getting back what you put in to it, happy going man :dance013:

Your friend is wrong. My friend currently works for an energy company and increases like that are typical.

If you're worried about the extra money it's going to cost you. Do little things like using CFL bulbs around the house. Turn lights off in unused rooms. Turn down the fridge and freezer... Turn off computers when they're not being used, especially at night.

The utility company should be the least of your fears.
