EMERGENCY ADVICE NEEDED!!!ASAP

Hey all, got an emergency about to occur. (I apologize for caps/wrong thread/w/e, didnt know where else to put this).

There is a HUGE windstorm where I am at right now, and my power has been going on/off for a few hours now but for just a few seconds. My flowering chamber lights are about 1 hour from turning on, with 6 plants about 1 month into flowering.

Does losing power instantly and then it coming back instantly screw with my plants light schedule and give me hermies???

What happens if I lose power for a longer period of time, 1 day? 6 hours?? How can I prevent the girls from sperming all over themselves!!!

Hope you all can understand how much this sucks, I have no greenhouse/way to put them outside, and could'nt rent a U Haul and bring em to a friends grow or anything.

I thought I read a thread once about someone saying just putting flashlights in their would be enough to convince the plants they are still in the sunlight.

I'll try freaking candles in the grow room if that helps!!!

Save me!! lol

biggest issue I see you having is with your ballast assuming your using HID lighting - it's not good to start and restart them - that and lack of ventilation could become a problem.

Otherwise an on/off effect won't cause hermies as long as you have 12 hours uninterupted dark per 24 hours.

You could use a battery operated floroescent light to provide 12 hours of light but it's not going to be enough to keep them growing actively if you have several days of power outage.

try to set up some fluros or something. The ballast will more than likely not restart. I have had to shut off my ballasts for a minute, then they wont restart till shut off for 20 minutes. I have heard others have the same issue.

Maybe just leave the lights off till tomorrow?

I think that's a real good idea. Better to have them in extra darkness then to expose them to some kind of an odd light schedule. Next day if the power isn't back to normal you could use the flashlights for 12 hrs.
Good luck....

thanks all, so far there has just been about 2 quick blackouts that lasted no longer than a min or so.

Find myself rooting for the big power supply business.lol

*panic attack over* hehe

When that has happened to me during the lights on cycle I just unplug the ballast and wait till the storm is over. Then I re-set the clock/timer if needed and plug them back in. I think we stress too much over small lighting interuptions. Better to go longer in the dark than the other way around. IMHO

next time just unplug your ballast and such so you dont have to worry about popping it or your bulb. in nature when its stormy plants dont get any light right? itll be just another rainstorm to them. i had power go on and off for a whole day once after a huge severe t-storm, just left the lamp off and cracked the box in the darkroom for air exchange. everything will be cool.

For emergencies, which this is not, by the way, I keep a power unit that I can run off my lighter in a vehicle, it is enough to be able to run a 4 ft floro, or air pumps, till order returns. Also, even candles will throw enough light to register in a pinch.
