I am looking at getting a new ballast. I am looking at the future bright electronic 1000 are the electronics worth the price?

I am also looking at the new Hortilux Super Blue HPS/MH bulb it runs 600 watts hps and 400 watts mh but the price is 249.00 has anyone tried this bulb yet or know if its worth what it cost i will be using this in my flower room only.

Technically, it would be digital vs. magnetic - both are electronic

But I'm going with 'Coil'. Cheaper, and more established technology that can easily be repaired or replaced.

The claims of energy savings have yet to prove themselves out - I doubt the additional $250 is going to work out in even a years worth of energy savings.

Meh. I've never used the Hortilux, just can't rationalize the price. I did pick up an HPS horticultural bulb from htgsupply.com (growbright brand), and can say there is a noticeable difference between the Horti bulb and the Standard commercial bulbs.

But as far as Hortilux.... meh

No problem bro, it's what we're all here for.

Also, check out the ballast kits there - 1kw for $109, and 400s for $45.

My kids put together the 400w in about 15 minutes following the instructions that come with it.

ballast kit....now that sounds interesting and so cheap. i wonder if they are just as good. if so im gonna go buy 3 right now. Thanks for the info NiteTiger.

I bought a 400MH and 1kw kit from them, had them both together and running in about 20 minutes. Directions are great, it's a breeze. Hell, my kids assembled on of them!

And they've been great so far.

I don't know diddly about digital ballasts, are they cooler than magnetic?

I run magnetic. I found SOLARMAX "ONE", according to research it supposed to be the best full spectrum lamp for horti.. It has a 600W HPS and 400MH in it. I found them online for expensive! But at my local shop I found them for around 60 bucks. I hear the pop like it's a good thing. I've have wonderful results with EYE Hortilux..
