Electricity Prices in Europe!

Ok I am moving to Sweden. Was doing my research, looking up how it all works, the companies, the prices, the fees, all that shit. And I went to a website that uses a cost calculator for what your electricity will be, based on various questions. I filled out the boxes and hit calculate and was I amazed at the cost of electricity in Sweden. Here is my breakdown.

Fixed Electricity 12 months

KWh price - so here we expect

Electricity price ex. VAT 37.10 cents / kWh
Environmental Surcharge ex. VAT 0.00 cents / kWh
Discount ex. VAT 0.00 cents / kWh
Fixed costs ex. VAT 0.00 cents / kWh
Energy ex. VAT 29.00 cents / kWh
VAT (25%) 16.53 cents / kWh

82.63 cents / kWh

Monthly cost - so we expect
kWh price incl. everything 82.63 cents
Your annual consumption 9000 kWh
Monthly cost 620 SEK / month = $93.99 USD per month (This price is for 1 -1000watt bulb 24 hours per day for one month)

Of which fixed charges (inc VAT)
Monthly Fee 0 SEK / month
Invoice Fee 0 SEK / month

So running just 1-1000 watt light bulb every hour of the day for everyday of the month will cost me 94 USD. That is not including electricity I use for the rest of the grow equipment, my TV, Washer or Dryer, Nothing. Just that one light will cost me 94 dollars per month. Holy shit. When I lived in the united states I was paying 11 cents per KWH. Thats 79 dollars. Not a huge difference but going from 11 cents to 83 cents per KWH sure is eye opening. Plus europe has alot of additional fees and taxes in addition to this price that the U.S. does not have.

Huh? What am I missing here........

If one place charges 11 cents per KWH and the other charges 82 cents- the the bill should be 8X more expensive, right?

Actually, I think that if you do the math correctly you will be even more shocked. If the cost is indeed 82.63 cents/kwh, your monthly cost for running a 1kw light 24/7 will be $595. How can you pay almost 800% per kwh and only have the bill go up by 19%?

Yes I just rechecked the math, you are correct according to that website I will pay 595 dollars a month for electricity which is impossible. I am headed back to recalculate. Thanks for catching that. I must be losing my mind. If that website is correct then looks like my new hobby is about to not be a hobby lol

Agree how could you even run your dryer or stove with prices like that. Somethings not right with your .83 per KWH. That's so high you would not have hot water for long ...

for electricity in Sweden averaged 0.83 kronor ($0.12) per kWh in December... The 83 cents is in Kronor not American dollars. so you will be paying 12 cents per kWh in us dollars ....

1 Swedish krona = 0.1527 US dollars

Ok I was using the Swedish website and it auto translated to U.S. Cents, and that's what confused me. It should have kept it in swedish currency. So its actually .8263 in swedish currency which is 13 U.S Cents per KWH. Not that bad. So its a difference of around 15 dollars. Could be alot worse.

Thanks HammerHead, you beat me posting it, I think my brain is fried for the day. But the difference of a couple cents is nothing to be upset about. Thanks for catching my bad math.
