Electricity Bill

Don't know if I am posting this in the right section but I couldn't find a section devoted to electrical questions. If someone could direct me to it I would be happy to move the post.

So I was looking at a friends electrical bill today and it left me a few questions. He lives in a 2br with one other kid. His bill was 200 and change. They run 3 air conditioners a lot but I still found his bill to be really high.

So on the bill it said something like 1510 kwh. I dont think that what it could have said because that would be absurd, but it was 1510 something and the bill was really high. Anyway, what I assumed it to mean was a little over 15 kilowatts per hour. Maybe someone could also explain how these electricity bills usually read.

So if I am correct and what it said essentially meant 15.1kw/h then how do they go about getting this number. Do they basically take all usage at the end of the month and sum it up into what it would be if you consistently used the same amount of electricity per hour. I mean like a average of all usage. Hope that makes sense. Just tell me if I need to reiterate.

Just called my buddy and he confirmed it said 1510 kwh, the bill was 227.

What does this mean and how are they coming to this final number.

learn physics

learn physics

:fsu: :fsu:

wow. learn basic physics or some shit before you try to grow.

first of all, a watt is a joule per second (J/s), a measure of power. a kilowatt is 1000 watts. a kilowatt is not a measure of distance or speed or any absurd shit you mentioned. you cannot use/travel/cover a kilowatt per hour. a watt is also equal to a volt times an amp (W = V A).

your electricity usage is billed by the kilowatt hour, not kilowats per hour or any other ridiculous shit you were trying to say. supposing you had a 1000 watt light (1 kilowatt) and ran it for an hour, (thus using 1 kilowatt hour) you are billed anywhere around $0.10 - $0.30. depending on what company you get it from and/or where you live. so, over the course of the month, your buddy used about 1500 kilowatt hours (kwh). this is the equivalent of running a 1kw light for 1500 hours in a month, which is obviously not possible which means he was using more electricity, on average, than a 1 kw light. so ur buddy pays an averaqe of about $0.13333 for 1 kwh, (a monthly bill of around $200.00. a window a/c depending on the size runs on 120V or 240V anwhere around 5 to 15A approximately. so if your buddy ran 3 1000w a/cs (prolly around 6 or 7000 btus) nonstop for a month he could easily get to 1500 kwh.

just look shit up if you dont understand. its hard to explain to someone who doesnt know much about electricity and physics but i tried.

you should be spanked :spank:

Yeah, thanks man. I actually figured out it meant kilowatt hour after looking at my bill but couldn't figure out how to delete the post. I just decided to leave it up since it didn't seem like anyone was going to answer my retarded question.

I would spank myself if I didn't enjoy it so much. :muahaha:

How do I delete the thread. And thanks for taking the time to so thoroughly explain.

Don't delete it Christian,as an electrician for many years I can tell you unequivically that the majority of people don't really understand how it works. It's not difficult, but some would seem condescending for lack of this knowledge, quite sad..Its not you that deserves a spanking IMO.Good explanation though.

finding a growshop that will ship kit to thailand .

finding a growshop that will ship kit to thailand .

I am trying to find a growshop in the states that will ship lights and ballassts and reflectors to thailand.
I want (hydrofarm)agrosun gold Halide H/O 1000W x 6
ballast x 4 ph57300
reflector x 4 RD8AC
220v - 240v 50 hertz
I have already spoken to hydrofarm and they say they dont deal direct with the public and to contact one of the grow shops that stock theyre kit .
I would be more confident ordering from a shop where one of the guys on here personally knows the manager/owner.
I am determined to get what i want am prepared to take hostages if need be lol

depends on the type of electric meter, the ones with the spinning dial are usually read by a meter reader who comes by once a month, (in my case, it says the date of the next meter reading.)

The other type are the new digital ones that are supposedly connected to a central computer where they can see how much you're using at any specific time.

I happen to have the one with a spinning dial so I dont know anything more in regards to the newer meters.

edit: they take a start reading and end reading and figure out the difference and that's you're usage.

WORST HIJACK EVVVVVVERRRRRRR ahahaha
where did that come from???????? seriously???

google and yahoo have a lot of answers for you if you just search your products buddy. Just because you can't get them wholesale from the manufacturer (which puts you in the same boat as most of us) doesn't mean there aren't online shops that sell the stuff you're looking for.

the 'new thread' buttom is around the upper left of the window if you need to ask more random questions. Doin some legwork on your own first usually pays off though :)

back on topic...
3 a/c's eh? i have central a/c but i try to run it as little as possible just because of how much power it takes. if you want a low electric bil you gotta make sacrifices somewhere right? :joint:

Some peoples freakin out about the costs cause their thinkin imitate natures sun is cheap and easy living, their so wrong :gaga:

essentially let me say dont :spank: yourself to much ,ya not the only one dude.

I was going to say exactly the same thing - why some people have attitudes? ... you'd think they'd be more mellow considering where we're at.

http://www.super-grow.biz/Electricity.jsp How much will my electricity cost?
to run my lighting 1st figure out how much kwh now figure out your veg lighting cost then your flowering lighting cost. add them together

Electricity Cost
Watts = 400
Hours Per Day Used 18
Kilowatt Hour Cost ($) .10
Days Used 30
Your Daily Cost Will Be $0.72
Your Monthly Cost Will Be $21.60

Electricity Cost
Watts 1000
Hours Per Day Used 12
Kilowatt Hour Cost ($) .10
Days Used 60
Your Daily Cost Will Be $1.20
Your Monthly Cost Will Be $72.00

so @ .10 cent per KWH the total cost of the grow would be approx 91.60$
next add few buck's in for fans and such so 100-120$
now if you live in an older place with older centeral A/C that in itself could run your power bills up. old A/C units for houses eat energy like my old 1964 ford F100 4x4 drinks gas, last house i lived in the power bills ran over 600 a month during last summer. that was with only 1 400w hps and 280 w in cfls this new location for 2 wks was only 145$ on 1K HPS so the whole month would only have been approx 280$ for me. newer house newer centeral A/C also having electrical things running when not in use {lights puter, TV's}and such cost's turn things off when not in use. change all light bulbs inside home to 15w warm or soft white or 20w daylight cfl's this helps a whole lot.

also very important side note change the centeral A/C units air filter every month once a yr have the unit serviced even in a rental house
