Electrician HELP... please

Electrician HELP... please

Background:
I am growing in an outdoor shed. I tried for a very longtime to make lightproof (stealth) and I'm as close as I can ever be. It is hooked up to a circuit breaker that is 20 amps by romex 2 wire with ground without the metal around the wire (just yellow plastic, is that illegal?). I am running a 1000w switchable light, 12 plant DWC, 465cfm fan and an AC and a few more tiny stuff.

Problem:
Everything works fine until I put on the AC. The temps get over 95 degrees in the summer easily by using the fan only. That's why I installed a portable AC. However, when everything is running, the circuit breaker jumps. I guess I'm sucking too much juice. Over 9 amps for the lights, about 7.5 amps from AC, plus the other tiny stuff. It was a pain in the neck to run power outside because then I had to cut metal pipe and put the wire through it. I had a wack electrician help me before (I think I probably knew more than him, and I don't know much about electricity). However, now that the room is a "grow room" I have to do everything myself. Another problem is, my circuit breaker box is packed!! I had to put some stuff together to free up a breaker for the shed. There is a 100 amp breaker (main power?) that has a lot of wires and it takes up alot of space. It takes up the bottom row too because it is so big.

Solution:
1. I was thinking of making the room 9 plant system and downgrading to 600watts. I really don't want to do this because I made a 12 plant system. I will have to buy new lights, new bulbs, reflector, etc. So I will spend probably $400+ I'm guessing. Not only that, I was planning to have 6 different breeds, 2 of each. But this will be the least amount of work but in the long run, less product. So much work for a 600watt GR?

2. I was talking to a Home Depot guy, I don't trust them much. But he suggested I make a sub-box to have more circuit breakers. I definitely can't do that! I will have to hire an electrician. He said I just can't just make the 20 amps breaker to a 25 or 30 amp because the wire will get to hot and I will burn down the house. How much to have an electrician do a sub box? Then I will have to run a wire all the way to the shed again!! What a pain in the ass! Is there wire I can run that will be less work? So i don't have to do the pipes again? Like exterior wire? I saw some at home depot but I can I use that? It was covered in gray plastic instead of the yellow I'm using. The one surrounded by metal doesn't look waterproof.

3. Can I change the breaker to 25amp or 30 amps? Is it the same size as the 20 amps breaker? Remember I don't have anymore space in the box. And I don't wanna burn the house down!

I'm out of solutions! Can you guys help me out? Give me a solution if I'm missing it! If not, which is the best? Thanks in advance.

1. ....last restort

2. the home depot guys right you will burn your house down if you use 20a wire with a 20a+ breaker. you need a sub box if your main pannel is too full to add more breakers. its not hard, just a 60a double pole breaker wired from the main to your sub box right next to your main panel. its 4 wires. then simply add breakers to the sub box and wire them up. a sub panel is a good option if you plan on using more power in the future.

3. you CANT put a 25a breaker on 20a wire. you WILL overheat the wire and burn your house down.

instead of a subpanel...imho this is your best option if you plan to not add more lights later on..
they have tandem breakers, wich is 2 breakers that fit in one slot. replace your current 20a breaker with one of those, run an extra 20a line ( might have to re pull both sets of wires.) then hook up the new line to a dedicated receptacle for either the AC or 1000w light, whatever uses more electricity...

most growers know hiring electricians is out of the question.
so go buy the Stanly Complete Guide to electricity/wiring. mine is black with yellow print. its super easy to understand with alot of helpfull pictures. after reading this i was alble to learn what size wire to use, install a sub box, single/double pole breakers, 120/240v wiring, 40a timers to controll multiple lights, and basically everything that has to do with electrical.

allways double check all connections and use electrical tape for all wire splices and wherever its reccomended.

good luck.

bud&nug use the old wire to tow the new wire in. That's the way we do it in the pros. Use the old wire as a tow rope. Get a second guy to push the wire in that's the difference between unending agony of 'wtf!!!' and ''oh yea, we got it let's go get baked now.'

All good ideas

That yellow romex is where? You said the shed is outdoors so did you bury it? That would be a no-no. I think the yellow is indoor use only. ANd if buried it should be in conduit.

Good point yamaha. There is specifically shielded wiring to be used outside. Make sure you double check.

the wiring made for underground wiring is called UF wire, or Under Feed wire. usually you can just bury it by itself but some electrical codes make you have conduit too.

Yeah... i put it in conduit! Thanks for the heads up! that's why this is the best community online!!!

senseless - thanks for the details, I might just let this summer pass into fall... i'm so stressed out.. hooking up the grow room.. the grow room is amazing i need to get some pics here.. just not enough power.... gonna look into the book and "tandem" breakers.. never heard of that..

thanks everyone you guys rock! If i knew u in real life.. i would hook u guys up with the goods ;)
