That is a long and windy question best answered if you will go to "electrical-online.com". Good pictures, schematics and ALL you would wish to know. Pretty damned good site for basic wiring Q's.

Learning is still fun for me, especially when the subjects are of interest and the facts support the words. I like being entertained and educated at the same time. Hope the info helps,

Peace

not many people, would bring up their exterior consumption meter. Unless you were planning on bypassing it, a touch of advive, that is one of the nest ways to get busted right there

how many lights do you plan on using, or how much amperage will you need?

I want be stealing power, just running a line to another breaker box.this keeps me out of main box.I understand that other things will need breakers.I want to learn for myself, what it takes to set up a complete room and be able to troubleshoot anything.I have the time to do this, rushing things would be the mistake.my last room had about 10000 watts, including veg room.I rushed to much there, mainly proper smell elimination.I have this site also to bounce things off you guys to help me out.Peace

Wow man, 10,000 watts?! Now does that mean for a long continious amount of time you had a total of 10KW running at once? If so, at 120 Volts you would have been consuming 83.3Amps!! That is alot of current my man. If that is your case, than I would highly recomend a liscensed electrician to come help you out with this project. Don't get me wrong, learning to do this stuff on your own is fun and a good idea, but no amount of knowledge will replace someone with experience on installing things the right, and more importantly, the SAFE WAY! I happen to be an electrician for about 15 years and know and see amateur mistakes that could become big safety issues! Something as simple as a loose connection on a receptacle. In most cases that mistake would be safe if installed in the correct enclosure, but having lots of continous power running through that mistake is a different story. Anyways, my point is simple, hire someone for that extensive of a job. Either that or seriously think about downgrading to a much smaller operation if hiring someone you could trust is an issue! That's my 2 cents! It would suck to have the Fire Department show up to put a house out with a 10KW growroom! Good luck and be SAFE!

While I have respect for professionals and their skills, I think adding a sub-panel is something you can do yourself. If I was adding this for a workshop or something else, I may have paid someone. But considering what I was doing, no way I was hiring someone. I added a 100 amp sub-panel off my main panel. No problems. The biggest issue I had was getting the proper "add a lug" for my panel to attach the ground and neutral to. Theres no reason you cant add your own panel.

You will probably need to add your sub panel off your main breaker panel. In my setup, there was no way to safely run another set of wires from the main breaker to another panel.

I put in a 100 amp breaker into the main panel and ran the appropiate wire (#2 I think) back to the second panel. Not hard at all. Just make sure all your connections are solid and you use the appropiate connectors.

Calculate everything you may need, lights, A/C, heat, pumps, fans, dehumidifiers, etc, etc, then calculate you can run 80% of the rated load continuosly (80 amps for 3+ hours on a 100 AMP circuit). Then you know how big of a load you can run. Running your lights on 220 helps alot with the load

This room pulls 41 amps just in lights (220V), and almost 80 amps with all accessories

I,m not running 10000 watts now,the state took care of that issue, very thankfull for a good lawyer and I put back money from cash crop.my lights were running on 220,window units were 220.everything else was 110.I had a electrician who wired up previous room.he has moved out of area and this time I want to do my own work.less people know, less loose ends.I have time to do this right and patience, jail seems to teach you patience. If you grow for dough, put back money, lawyers help.this time I,m growing for me,fuck everybody else.2000 watts is plenty.thought about a stadium growroom.Peace

You want to learn growroom wiring but you havent learned the most important basic concept for growing longetivity? You dont steal you dumb fuckin punk,I dont care that you will be busted but it makes the rest of us look like thieves.I'm not a thief and I hate punkass thieves but you have fun in prison again boy.Change the title of your thread loser, you dont want an electrician you want another loser with theft skills..

Great rant!

While I agree with this sentiment, might I suggest you read freeatlast's posts before exploding into a tirade. He said he wasn't looking to steal power, just put in a sub-panel.

You need to IMPROVE your reading and comprehension skills before you jump on peeps, your rant was completely out of line and uncalled for. Buy a Websters dictionary and consider a refresher course in punctuation and sentence structure, it wouldn't hurt. Other than that Welcome to the ICMAG forums.

Welcome to IC, over the years I viewed but never joined other pot forums, too much BS, that was until I found this place. Bunch of good folks here and a lot of information (good and bad lol), it's a nice place to be.

thanks for understanding that stealing power was not my intentions.I have no desire to make myself a easy target.Peace

It def. can all be done by a non professional, and all the work is fairly easy. Considering what this is for, I understand your dilema with hiring someone. I would read everything you can get your hands on, preferably books or websites with good pictures on actual installation techniques. Make sure all your wire connections are secure and have all your splice points in a UL rated enclosure. Buy all quality materials from reputable dealers.

Even with 2KW, I would recomend installing a sub panel as all your device wiring would only have to go to your sub panel location. Make sure you size your sub panel large enough for future expansion, but small enough so as not to overload your main panel. Keep in mind what size your service feed to your Main is (usually 100A-200A in residential) and how much of that power is being used by the rest of your house.

Anyways, just do your research and be very consious about live power. Keep all your wiring as neat as possible and pay close attention to all the direction you've recieved! Good luck and keep it GREEN!

"Jesus loves me, but he can't stand you"?????????????? Yo Bubba, I spoke with Jesus yesterday, in person mind you, and I asked him if he knew who YOU were, HE replied that he didn't. I wanted to ask Jesus a few more questions but Then he said, "Senor, I am sorry hombre, I need to get back to work trimming this pile of smile!!!!!!!!!! essay".

Gotcha-------heard that one awhile back.
