electrical questions... again

Ok so i got to go over and look at what im getting myself into... ITs a mess.

Im looking at a 9 unit effieciency condo with 6 breaker boxes each with a 100 amp switch and 2 20a breakers installed. I was origanlly going with a subpanel and running things mmyself in a basement plans changed now im in this place. I got a friendly sparky to run everything to a certain unit.

I want to install a 40a breaker in each box so i can run 2 1000's off of each breaker. I want to know if this sounds reasonable and of course safe. THe wires are all goona be ran through walls to the upstairs unit.

And before you think im stealing electricity from other tenants the owner pays the bills and they know whats going on. So they just tell them less money and that way the bills to the unit stays low.

do you have a washer/dryer hookup? thirty or fifty amp will allow you to buy a plug in box that will run either 4 or 8 1ks on one timer no problem. You can plug it right into the dryer outlet.

You talking about the the amp boxes that have like the 4-8 plugs connected to a timer and pulgins in any 220 volt?

this whole breaker only has a 100a switch so i doubt i can run that many light on a 220 box or no box i would burn the place down i think.

Can you take a pic of the breaker? THat doesn't really make sense to me. You won't be drawing 220 amps, for one thing. You'd actually draw half the amps at 240. If you have a 100 amp service, you should easily be able to find a 30 amp breaker for the dryer, or just install one yourself. And yes, that's what I was talking about.

Just plug into the dryer or range receptacle. Even at 240V you aren't using half the amps, the amps are drawn equally over both 120V feds. A 1000W ballast at 240 will draw about 4.5 amps on both 120V, so you are still drawing approximately 9 amps. I can build you a custom timerbox/loadcenter, with any length of cord and dryer or range plug, 4 prongs.

well its an old breaker box with like a main switch that switched from left to right. Then you can open the box up and it has a spot for all the breakers. The landlord said that the switch was only 100a so im not sure exactly. But let say it was.

Ok now each box had 2 20a breakers in it with a place for 3 more breakers to be installed.

Now if what your saying is i can run multiple lights 4-8 1000w light on this 240v with out havieng electrical issues? I mean this HAS to be done right i cant burn down my buddies apartment buildings. All the wireing and box's are old.

My guess is that they are the new ones right after they had the screw in fuses. So probably pretty old.

Please let me know what you think.
