electric question

My electrician comes in at the end of the week but in the meantime I need to set up a lighting controller for veg. I have a 40 amp breaker and the lighting controller needs a 30 amp. I assume it will be fine since I am pulling less than required, but I don't know enough about electric to be confident.

I always use the appropriate size breakers for all my electrical. You could get a 30 amp double pull for $20. I would just get the appropriate sized breaker.

Can I just swap out the 40 for a 30 amp breaker and run appropriate wire?

Yes you can. Just bring your 40 amp with you to home depot to make sure you get the right type for the panel you have. Theres a few different types of breakers. They have a wiring size chart too right next to all the wires
