Ebb & Flow with Soilless?

I couldn't really decide if this belongs in the hydroponic or soil forum. Anyway, I have been considering using a ebb & flow system but would prefer to use a promix, perlite, vermiculite and lime mix because it's easier to purchase and I can avoid the hydrostore.

So the question is obviously- can I use this type of system with the mix I'm talking about. If so, tips, suggestions, advise?

Thank you!

I can't say I have personally run a pro-mix, uhh mix in E&F tables but I have used 3part perlite & 1 part vermiculite for years. I have seen E&F tables with pro-mix used to bottom feed successfully.

that or you could use your E&F tables with pro-mix with a drip set up.

just ideas

I have used peat/perlit/lime (no vermiculite) in passive hydro systems before without any issue. Zero experience with ebb & flow. I would think it'd hold onto moisture too well.

I think promix or any peat mix should be good since it drains well. one thing is you'd have to be careful with chem nutrients. The soil will hold onto nutrients so i'd try to avoid amending to much in the soil. At least if you plan to fertilize through the water...

I'm starting to think about making an E&F still utilizing my organic mix, and just using it for automatic watering. A drip system would be the best bet.

We're on the same train of thought. I'm currently in the process of researching automatic watering systems for my plants growing in super soil. Drip system seem like they could turn into an entangled and chaotic situation indoors, so I'm now leaning toward a simple ebb and flow system to water from bottom up. Do you have any suggestions based on your research and experience?

I'm stoked to know someone in another part of the world is on the same quest as I am right now! I'm sure we would get along, just judging by our currently interwined experience of space and time :ying:
