EBB and FLOW in coco?

a friend is setting up a ebb-flow in coco - and i just wondered what the pro's and con's with that?

they are thinking of using slabs. what does work the best?

any proven methods?

i thought slabs are for drip?

i recomended them already to use smal pots for ebb and flow

they are going to grow in a SOG style grow

iirc Abazaba is doing it with out any isues, but I rana test run in my set up and the return to the rez just made PH go whacky and EC steadily climb...

So drip to drain it is gonna be for me... no messin with the rez after you make it.

yeah i would strongly advise them to go for a drip set up. it's tried and tested many times with success.

the biggest problem with doing it ebb and flow style with slabs, is that the water will not be entering the slabs from the top, as the holes are on the bottom of the slabs and the holes in the coco slabs are small and will not let the water in very fast, if you have a rw cube on top of the slab, which you kind of need, then the water that's needed to reach the top of the cube will be enormous. meaning that the tank will need to be gigantic, so that it can take all that water back without being effected too badly in terms of ph and ec. even so slabs are just not ideal for ebb and flow imo.

it can work ebb and flow using coco . my friend has it set up using 2 gal pots with half canna coco and half hydroton clay pebbles for bettter drainage. also he recommends that your friends use nutes specificlly ment for coco coir such as canna coco a and b or monkey juice from advance nutes , that should help with ph in your res. what i ve seen are great results for a organic soiless , fat killer beez fo sho .

Hey fellow cocoers,

While I dont have any experience using ebb&flow with slabs, brah and I currently have 2 ebb&flow trays filled with 1 and 2 gallon pots filled only with coco and are having great success. Tray are flooded approx 4-5" twice daily for 15 minutes each cycle.

There has been no pH influx nor ppm issues, everything looks nice and happy. I think the key to our simple success so far is the quality of coco we bought, which was pre-flushed to an EC of 0.2. Just using Canna A & B @ 10ml/gal and about to apply the first dose of PK13-14 to recently flowered girls in the flow trays.

It definately goes like others here have said, keep the coco simple and the medium will reward you, Its very forgiving stuff

I think if I were to do an ebb/flow setup, I would make a coco bed like Dalton

yeah then the water can at least reach the top of the bed and do it's work.
