What are your experiances with this? we grew a really good batch last year using Ednas enhanced with Batguano powder and molasses water. real simple.

I only ask because every one seems to be using FF for soil. My roomate swears by Ednas its only 9.99 for a big ass bag and it is supposedly the "closest" to nature.

Im about to start my own little soil grow soon and im wondering if i should go a different route and use FF ocean forest or should i just copy my roomate and use the Ednas..

and FF OC has the following, it seems like it has less ingredients?

Ocean Forest® is a powerhouse blend of premium earthworm castings, bat guano, and Pacific Northwest sea-going fish and crab meal. Composted forest humus, sandy loam, and sphagnum peat moss give Ocean Forest® its light, aerated texture.

A lot of people in here use their own soil mixes or compost, in fact, I'd venture to guess that's the majority. FF OC seems to work fine as well, but if your roommate had good success with this brand and it's cheaper, you could try it out. I'd mix in some earthworm castings to either soils personally. I would also be cautious of the mushroom compost listed in the grandma's brand.

Best thing to do would be to run a side by side grow or if you had a microscope, check which has greater microbial activity. I've heard that FF OC can vary in quality depending on where you live in the country and how long it's been on the shelf, but I think that could be said of any commercial soil that gets sold on shelves.

Mushroom compost is a higher PH, probably great for cutting down on peat moss acidic tendencies....say a third mushroom compost in the first use of soil, then when the peat breaks down adding more compost.

I am in a real pickle about soil, I am sick of purchasing pre-manufactured soils. There is source I am thinking about looking into, a local product that a store can order. Everything online cost a FORTUNE to ship, it's not even worth checking into.

That Ednas sounds like a great blend. Has everything. I've been mixing my own soilmixes for years and I don't pay as much attention to exact ingredients as I did. I've come to realize that with a good organic mix, you can relax with the knowledge that 'it's in there'. The plant takes what it wants and leaves the rest for later. The final quality and quantity of your crop depends more on your watering and potting skills than the exact nutritive content of the soilmix.

This potting mix sounds good to me. I always would go with a good mix other than ff since I think it's over priced. Although mixing your own can work better and be cheaper. I look at a soil mix like cooking from scratch vs. getting food frozen from the store. Yea one is easy and you just add water, but it always tastes better when you cook it yourself imo.

I used this soil mix before along with FFOF. To compare, my plants love both of them and I don't see much of the difference between the two besides the price tag. Also, adding a little bit of perlite is a good idea because it can get a little muddy just like the FFOF.

However, they are only available at local nurseries and I don't like the fact that they store it outside. As a result, a bag is always filled with fungus gnats and white flies.

Sorry to bring a thread back from the dead, but I'll blame it on search. Anyone got anymore feedback on this soil?

I just talked to my guy in the city who says I can get this stuff UBER cheap. If anyone wants in on the pricing, let me know.

hey stank- that song is 'strength beyond strength'

im not too sure about pale green. maybe he runs N-loving varieties... hard for me to say because the plants i run in Edna's are only my mother plants. being that they are kept in veg, in the same pot for potentially years, i work a feed schedule on them.
i wouldn't worry too much about it. Edna's is a quality product with good ingredients, couple that with some FPE's and tea's (like i would use regardless of what brand soil i was using) you will get some nice healthy, clean girls.
its cheap enough, give it a try and report back.
