Here's a guide to testing your garden's soil, at home for free. It's a low tech method to see if you have either highly acidic, or extremely alkaline soil.

Most plants thrive in a soil with a neutral (or near neutral) pH, so you can see why this stuff is important. *share* *share* *share*

You'll need two jars, baking soda, and vinegar. It's really that easy. Once you've done this 5 minute test, you'll know if you need to make amendments to your soil. If you get a reaction with the baking soda mix, then you need to add lime (mineral, *not* the citrus) or wood ash to raise the alkalinity. Likewise, if you get a reaction with the vinegar mix, there are steps to take to improve your soil. By simply adding sulphur or pine needles, you can lower the pH over time. Use these tips to get your soil as close to neutral as possible, for healthier plants and easier gardening.
