Easiest way to hang panda film?

Active member
Hey guys, I bought 50 feet of panda film to seal my room. The stuff is heavy and slippery, so obviously it's going to be a two-person job. Even so, I can see it's not gonna be fun...any suggestions that might make it easier? How have others done this awkward task?

I'm thinking that thick two-sided tape you can get at dollar stores would be good stuff to hang it with, and it wouldn't cause any minute leaks the way a staple gun might.

staples along the edge, seal with duct tape

gotta luv duct tape!

Staples are good but they will pull thrugh after time and wear!
Use a little piece of cardboard on top of it then staple it...
Then duct tape it...but use Good tape cause after time It will not stick anymore!
Use the silver expensive foil tape and youll never have a problem but I found that normal black duct tape only holds for a couple months and then its USELeSS

if its going to be hung on a wall why not just screw it onto the wall then use foil tape for the edges...

No one has mentioned 3M adhesive spray. You'll find it in home depot. I think I'd trust it more than duct tape...especially if it gets really hot. If you're covering up windows, I'd use spray, tape, thumb tacks, and everything else for insurance.

Yeah, I dont think i'd use duct tape. That stuff loses its grip. So if your covering a big wall, a thin strip of duct tape won't cut it.

Thanks for the tips, y'all. Probably saved me from needlessly damaging the panda film. This is one thing I definitely want to do right the first time.

Leaf, I like the sound of that adhesive spray--sounds easy to apply. Stapling through an aluminum tape border is another possibility. I'll be covering one small basement window in the upper right corner and will be thorough.

If it was me, I'd lean toward a mechanical kind of attachment rather than tape or adhesive. That way you know for sure that nothin's goin anywhere!! :chin:
Get some heavy duty clear plastic packing tape and go all around the edge of the Panda film where it will be anchored. This will reinforce the Panda film. Use 2 inch long #10 wood screws with a washer through the packing tape and into a stud. The washer will help prevent tears. No worries about your film coming down now!! Then you can simply tape off any light leaks.

THis is the winner. This spray is very tacky and will hold up over time. Spray the wall, then spray your film and add a little pressure for 20 seconds...bam.

It doesn't get any easier than this.

yeah but in the longrun when you might have to move it might rip off the paint that you sprayed the wall with and put your panda film up ther..

Hey yeah, I hadn't thought of the wall damage the 3M stuff might cause...I like bipedalhominid's idea of reinforcing with heavy tape and then screwing through it. Kinda labor-intensive but effective, and easy on the film. I could figure out my joist widths and tape the washers to the film in advance of hanging. Hmmm! :chin:

I'm not an adhesive expert so take it for what its worth, but I think all of your adhesive options will be damaging.

Oh dude, i got an idea. Labor intensive but I just might use it myself. I'd be using the idea for windows though.

Get some boards and then screw them in around the edges of the wall/window, use as many screws as necessary so you know its flush. Then spray the boards with the 3M and lay the poly film.

But aside from that, does anyone have any ideas on how to remove adhesives from walls? Like industrial nail polish remover or anything?

Jesus people, if you're converting your room into a grow room having to repaint shouldn't be a concern. You spend days setting it up but aren't willing to spend a day to take it down properly...the adhesive spray is the easiest and most reliable option if you can stomache the idea of *gasp* having to paint a little afterwards.

Admittedly, I can be fussy about the deets...but having put so much effort into pulling the room together in the first place, I'd like to minimize even minor damage if possible. If the adhesive just pulls a little paint off, no big deal...but what if it pulls out chunks of drywall? I have no idea how strong the stuff is (though the ease of application is a draw).

Really, the most important things to me are achieving a good seal and hanging the plastic in the easiest, most effective way possible. Also don't want to needlessly mess the stuff up.

Yeah dude, very easy to plug screw holes & dab on paint after teardown.
Most studs are placed 16 inches apart on center. Just find the first one & measure along the wall marking with a pencil as you go. Or use a stud finder. Then when you put up the film anchor one end & have your buddy hold the other end & pull tight.
Then go along and install the screws where the wall is marked. Bet it would be less effort than you think........especially if you have help.
Good luck!!

Check out the panda lightproofing. The curtains are pulled back. Everything is hung with foil tape. Great stuff.

curtisd, you can only get the stuff at hydro stores; usually it comes in 100-foot rolls, though some places (like the store where I got mine) will cut lengths of the exact amount you need. I got 50 feet of panda film for about $45.

Spreading Seed: looks tight!

Haha I do the same thing (usually). Staple through cardboards, or even a piece of duct tape folded in half. Not absolutely needed but it will make your growroom stay intact for much longer if you do.

Ditto on the shitty duct tape too, but Ive found it lasts more like 6 months. Duct tape is so cheap and easy to work with, AND you should damn sure be cleaning your grow room every 6 months anyway, I always just use the cheap shit and re-apply as needed.

PS its a one man job is your a G :D An extra set of hands sure does make it a whole lot easier though. :joint:
