dying clones.

ok me and my buddy have been thru 3 sets of clones with our Orin. Haze X Skunk#1 from sam the skunkman mom.

is it us or is this plant a hard cloner? i dk. We cut the clones, they root, we put them in rockwool the first time, didnt work. tried the rockwool again. same results. now we swtich it to soil, and coco. put it in coco, and it seems to just die. What the hell are we doing wrong here? (yes we use a humitiy dome. yes they are really healthy when the roots come )

anyone who can lend the green form their thumbs. please gimme me some help here >_<

Build yourselves a bubble cloner. You just put water into it, and add a lot of air, and you get clones. It's so simple. I've had hard to clone strains before though. I lost a lot of cuttings this last time, but that's because the guy who brought them to me did not take proper care in how he transported them. Still, other than this time I'd say I had a 95% success rate with my bubble cloner typically.

Are you taking them straight from the ultra humid environment and putting them directly in the lighted veg area?
They don't particularly like going from jungle to grassy plain in one sitting.

Try putting them in another container with a dome and removing it for an hour a few times a day first. Let them get adjusted to the dryer air.

They'll root fast and take hold.

Also, make sure you're not overwatering. Those rockwool cubes should be almost completely dry before they get water again.

Keep at it, use only a couple clones at a time until you get it. You WILL succeed.
If it gets really complicated, write down exactly what you're doing and refer to your notes. You'll definitely succeed. :)

Why don't you write down exactly what you do, step by step, along with the products (nutes or whatever) that you are using and then you can probably get an answer to your problems. It's really impossible to answer your question with the information you have given.

To everyone who lend me a minute. I thank you all for your time :)

magic campus: we use a perlite wick cloner. (no noise) lol . i am at 100% caus ei havent lost anything in that. . . it works quite well and does the job :)

smoketolive : No rooting gel. all natural .i cut the plants under water. just put it in the perlite it works wonders :)

Hydro: This is where I think im going wrong. cause i wud put them in the cloner they root and then into rockwool in the dome lid. and i tried putting them in veg after a day or two. the first time and they died. . then the 2nd try i put them in 12/12. and they died also after a day or two...i kept the coco ones in veg (24hrs)

they root in the cloner but after we transfer them to rockwooll(1"cubes) or cocoa they just die. THEY Root. . i know what roots are lol.. the are almost like 1/2" long before i transfer, and not a rough transfer. were really delicate with them babies :)

but they just die. i never had this .. happen its so strange.

thanks all for you time . tahnks alot :) be safe!

I'm a firm believer in cloning in the growing medium. If you're growing in Rockwool, clone in Rockwool. This will remove transplant shock. Dome removal (and the instantaneous loss of dangerously high RH levels) was my #1 cause of death. Once I threw the dome in the trash, I stopped loosing clones.

Here RH is at 28%. I've cloned as low as 15% dome free. By keeping cuts short and leaves trimmed, misting and domes are unnecessary. FWIW I also soak stems one minute in Hormex (any IBA and NAA solution will do) and use gel.

Excuse me but, the cloner and/or how you're using it is exactly the problem. If it weren't, you wouldn't be asking for help with a plant so easy to clone.

i agree with freeze .... if you want to continue using the dome (i do think elevated RH speeds up the rooting) get a couple extra domes and have one with some ventilation, another with more ventilation, and then let them go into your ambient RH. What is your ambient RH .... if you are going from sealed dome (100% RH) to like 30 you are humidity shocking them.....those leaves have adapted to high humidity... if you are getting healthy roots to develop initially i really cant see any other reason why they would crash unless it was humidty/light stress..... are you keeping them under same light levels? if you are placing under an hid place them way off to the side.....also another idea is to place a ziplock over them when they leave the dome and gradually (like every 2 days) cut more and more holes in the ziplock.......good luck! you got the "hard" part figured out.....have you rooted other strains using your current method that lead you to your conclusion?

LOL - Another couple days in the cloner and a couple cfls @18/6 for a few days after transplant and his problems would be over. I don't understand the rooting in a perlite cloner then putting in a 1" rockwool cube and dome. If you want the clone in rockwool, root the fucking thing in rockwool. Why screw with the roots when they're tiny and tender. But. wtf do I know - I've only made a few thousand clones.

spookygrenjeans - This is what a clone should look like when it is ready for transplant. 1/2 inch long roots is too early! This clone is after ten days - rooted in an R/W cube, in a dome.

hydrosoil pegged it here, its just a matter of "hardening off" the newly rooted clones to their intended veg grow space environment.

Search keyword "hardening off" spookygreengenes for more detailed information

I clone in rockwool, 100% lucas formula gh, hum dome or wilt spray. I have roots within a 10 days and can go straight into soil or hydro, no problems.

whoa. . . i didnt mean to get flame or offend anyone >_< sorry.

the perlite cloner works for sure i get roots. that is no tthe problem. i transfer the little ones over to 1" rockwool cubes and they die. they die in coco 80% and perlite 20%. and in regular or soil... it was choosen amonst the 5 freebie seeds i got and its just the best one lol. it was already cloned its first round then harvested... then revegged...n now its where it is.i think it has to do with the RH over the cloner >_< /if its really b/c the roots arent long enough i can believe that, but ive had successful cloning attempts before with the same mum. the roots still grow even after the clone dies which i dont think its my roots >_< might be hardening off :(

uhhh... now readign about hardening off i think its that exactly... my sudden change in RH and temps light etc. the plants coudnt help but to die. lol...

Once I got clones to root, Dome weaning was my #1 cause of death. MJ isn't meant for that kind of dangerously high RH. Once I threw the dome in the garbage, I stopped killing clones.
