DutchPassion Fem'd/FemaleSeeds WW grow

Back in the loop after a hiatus not of my making.
Thanks to the wonderful folks at Seedbay, I am back in the saddle.
They have provided me with a great assortment to help me get back up to my production. Included was DP Femd WW, FemaleSeeds WW and their Grapefruit, and Reeferman's Blue Thunder. Others will be grown and posted as time allows

Here's their seedling pics 10 days after germ. I'll be splitting off the Blue Thunder and Grapefruit in later threads as they progress.

Unfourtunately I only have one sample of the Female seeds WW to compare. I weighted the grow on the side of DP's WW because I have 4 yrs. worth of experience with the strain and needed a strain I knew. I wanted to try the Blue Thunder and Grapefruit as well, and only have space for so many. I'm sure the sample will bear out to be a goody.

Sorry about the date on the first pic, just thru the battery in and didn't update. My Bad.

Had a bit of a setback with my last girls. My adolecent cat got a toy into my closet and did what a cat can do. My fault.'Nuf said

This new collection is the same with the addition of NLx Bigbud. These are 22 days from popping out and most have been topped. I will run a seperate thread on the Blue Thunder, Female Seeds Grapefruit, and NLxBB. I'll be more technically specific re lights, soil, etc, as I seperate the threads

Looking at some of my topping you'd think I was playing mad scientist.

Heres a sloppy top of a FSWW

Heres a normal top of a FSWW

And a FSWW not topped

And heres a Dutch Passion White Widow that I think I fim'd right

And the girls, And if you look real close you'll set some leaf tips chewed by you know who. Seems like I have to use the Boundry spray every day. The girl in the cup is a FSWW that had a slow start for some reason. She is physically 2 weeks behind the rest yet was germed the same day. She is developing normally now, I will use her as mother, since I think she will be off timing with the other girls.

Hey there.....welcome back! :jump: :woohoo: :jump:

Everything looking good your way...gotta keep the kitty out though! :bat:
Will be nice to see the side by side WW grow as it progresses along.

Good growing to you...will stop back in as you update.

Today I will give some background on my grow environment.

This time around, I'm using Miracle Grow potting mix, labeled as "New and Improved, feeds for up to 3 months". I had taken a hiatus from growing and in "this years" formula I noticed more perlite and didn't bother to add anything else. Last years needed more perlite for my liking. I added a little liquid starter fert on day 8 and it proved too much N, "greening" up the seedlings and slowing growth. It is not necessary, when using this soil, to add fert during the seedling and young veg stage. It will result in typical over N symptoms. Deep green, slow growth, distorted seedling. Especially affecting the DP WW, ( normally sensitive to N ) and eventuall edge/margin burning.

I germinate my seeds in 8 oz styrofoam cups covered with plastic wrap, under 2 pairs of 20" Chroma50 flouro's. I add the listed amount of Superthrive, then ph adj. water (around 6). Once the seed pops the surface I remove the plastic wrap and start the calendar. I move the seedlings after 10-14 days to the HPS sodium lights. These are simply 70W Security lights bought at HDepot, lenses removed and a few holes drilled for vent. Each puts out a little over 6000 lumens. I have used these lamps for cloning lights and keeping my mothers under with great success.

At day 21, I transplnt from cup to 1 gal pots and place under a 1000w hortilux. This lamp is on a mover, and is vented with a 260 cfm dryer duct booster fan in my attic. At this point the N from the soil is depleted and the plant is nicely rootbound. When I transplanted up, I added 1 Tsp of Superthrive and 22ml of FF Grow Big 12-7-7 to 5 gals of water. This again proved too much for this soil.

These pics are day 37. Plants about 12" tall. As you can see by these white light pics, the DP WW leaves are smaller than the other plants' and there is evidence of leaf edge and tip burning on those and the Blue Thunder. The pale edges are signs of gradual N burn, which I have hopefully arrested. The FSWW that was a late starter ( probably due to the high N) has turned out very nicley, but all plants are too green, waxy, and show slight signs of backcurling.I did not freak out and Flush. That would not have been very good for my plants, A gradual or slight over N does not require flushing, just time. I have been using only ph adj water for my watering, and the new growth is coming in a better shade of green, with a good growth rate. I will assume by the time I'm ready to transplant up to my 10 liter ( 2.5 gal) pots, (about 2 more weeks), the fert in the soil will be depleted and I will have used some of the FF Grow Big. These pics where taken in the morning and the pale new growth is normal for this time of day. Notice it's contrast with the dark green of the older leaves. It's important to look at your plants under regular white light or better yet, sunlight. HID light distorts our colors, I believe the best gauge for ferts is what the plant can tell you, rather than what the instructions on the package say.

topped DPWW and topped FSWW overfert

topped DPWW and FSWW closer

this is the untopped and slow starter FSWW

FSWW are the outer ones DPWW center

The 2 FemaleSeeds Grapefruit's started going asymetrical last week and almost all the others have started showing signs of maturity.

I will be running seprate threads on the grape fruit and others at a later date. Right now I'm off to cook some Aunt Jemima pancakes covered in butter and Log Cabin syrup

Heres a sample of the two White Widows as they look on day 5 of 12/12.

The one Blue Thunder I had put in was a male and hence has become compost.

This is the FSWW. Those of you that have cats may recognize the little cat greens I provided for Holly. Much better for her than MJ.

I havent gotten around to setting up the threads for the Female Seeds NLXBigBud and the FSGrapefruit. I will say that the NLxBBud is a very nice looking plant so far. The Grapefruit is more sativa dominate and is a bit more particular about it's N. Since most of my background is in N tolerant Indicas, I will need 1 or 2 more grows to get it right I think.
Heres a pic of each

Day 11 of 12/12. buds forming nicely. Not much difference so far in growth attributes of these plants.

20 days into 12/12.
Seems like all are doing well. They have stretched to the max and are fully into bud production. I have cut off most of the the bottom "sucker" branches. They need fluid (water or water and fert) every 3 days and I am following the new Fox farm feeding schedule sans additives. Since I'm not using thier soil this time around, I'm using only the Grow Big (6-4-4) on the 3rd week of 12/12. Seems this MG soil is a little hot in the N.

This is 2 views of the FSWW untopped

Yes the light is on a mover, no it's not too hot, the hood is vented via a dryer vent booster fan in the attic. About 260 cfm. no different than a fan sold by the light guys. Yes by the time of harvest there will be some signs of light bleaching. I expected the height since I was starting from seeds and am a purist about waiting until full maturity b4 12/12. However when I work from clone stock I usually flower when the plant is about 20".

Speaking of clones here are the clones I cut 20 days ago, the day I put the girls into flower.I xplanted them into the 1 gal pots ystrdy. They are under 2 70w hps security lights from Home D. 6200 lumens each in a 4 sq ft closet. They do very well thank you HAHAHA.

I have a Son Agro 430 in another closet that I would normally rotate the clones into for veg after the xplant. If you think of the timing in this technique you can see how when some are finishing flwr, others are vegging. using this method it is possible to have a harvest every 9 weeks or so with an 8 week plant.
These will just be for mothers right now. I only need 1 of each variety and will eventually dispose of the 4 weaker ones. If there is no difference in the WW's. I will let the public decide wich one Brand lives to propagate and which one flowers out.
I don't think I will go back into a full schedule. When I do, I use the security lights for the mothers and cuttings, then put the xplanted cutting right under the 430 and raise the light. The 430 can accomodate 15 1gal pots in it;s space, Just the same amount as my 8'x4' table can hold of 10 liter pots. (2.5 gals).:woohoo: Thanks to 8th grade geometry I figured that all by myself HAHAHAHA>
I use 2 liter soda bottles cut in half as domes and put 2 cuttings into each cup. When ready I just slice the cup down the middle and xplant the 2 clones. They love these security lights, hardley ever lost a cutting in 4 1/2 yrs.

Looking great bro. They look nice and healthy mmmm, save some for me k haha. I don't like mg potting soil either, everytime I've tried it, it has seemed to be to strong especially for seedlings ect. Fantastic grow and operation ya got going on though. GL and happy growing

Thanks for the complements. I try to K.I.S.S and dont get too caught up in additives and such.
Another problem with MG is, it is sold wet when purchased from Home D. The bags have perforations to let it breath. They leave it outside in the nursery and it gets rained on or watered by the daily plant waterings. This results in a composting effect, especially here in the south. This breaks down the organic N too much and too fast, so when you use it it is too hot. Probably can be helped with adding more perlite and other stuff to cut the actual soil volume in the pots. Better yet, use FF Ocean Forest, their ferts, and schedule, and you will not have any probs

Decided to harvest my garden starting this past fri. Since I waited till they were fully mature b4 flowering, they eventually outgrew the capacity of the 10 liter pots and were showing signs of being rootbound. The soil was dense like a rock, couldn't even poke a finger in smoothly. Better to cut them then to ruin them. Just couldn't get any more density to the buds, and they were showing heavy color change on the stamen. The trichs were starting to cloud completly so I wasn't too premature. My past experiance with DP WW was that some were early hvst btween 49-56 days.

Sorry about the pics, seems the flash may have reflected off the trichs and diffused the image. Or maybe I was just a little wired from the harvest. I had cut my FS Grapefruits just b4 these. Just for reference, the window shades are 3 3/4' tall. I normally do not grow out my cloned plants that tall, but these started from seed and I only wanted to top these once to give a clear idea of the seed potential.

FSWW

DPWW

I had stripped the DP WW of it's large fan leaves for the photo.

The 2 FS Grapefruits I harvested yielded 95 grams of usable product and an undetermined amount of branch shake (too little for cosmetics, not enuf crystal) which I will be mixing with the trim for pixie dust.

The Northern LightsxBigBud lived up to it's name. It was the last 2 I harvested and was 1 day past due for a watering. When I came home from dinner, 1 cola was just bent right over where I had tied it to a stick weeks ago and the other plant had fallen over on the table I guess the pot was a bit too small and pretty light with nothing but root and dry dirt. HAHAHA. Wouldn't have been funny if I wasn't cutting them up the next morn.

I'll take some bud shot comparisons as they come ready.
I will give my taste impressions at that time also.

Holly never chews on the buds, She's very happy pukeing up leaves

Seems my cam took a dump so I wont have any bud shots for you.

heres the final tally
2 Female Seeds NorthernLightsx BigBud yld=124 grams, well pronounced colas, very good bag appeal, very good daytime high, not too much lethargy as it winds down, good for lunchtime smoke. I would highly recommend it for the grower looking for a good balance of quality and yield. The 2 seeds I had germed had the same growth and physical characteristics. This one stays

2 FemaleSeeds Grapefruit, yld=95g. This was without a doubt the shining star of this grow. This is some of the best smoke I've ever grown. Small, fluffy buds, nice aroma, great taste, great high. This one stays.

Now to the meat of this thread,
My past experience with DP WW has been similar to this grow. I have found it neccesary to grow out and clone many of the DP WW seeds to find a mother with the expected phenotypes. Such seems to be the case with this last batch of seeds. Although my first round of seeds was damaged by my cat, I will say that they would have been indicative of the same inconsistancy. To be fair though, once you find what you are looking for, the DP White Widow lives up to it's reputation as a Cup Winner. I have been fortunate to have found and kept a cpl of those winners in the past and did very well with them.
The 2 DutchPassion WW's I grew out of this batch I will not
clone as keepers, nor will I release the 55grms of yld the 2 provided. The product in no way compares to the quality of the FemaleSeeds WW.

The 4 FSWW yld 186g, all exhibited the same characteristics, all had the same high quality smell, taste, creep-up, knock down high expected of White Widow. This one stays also.

The folks at FemaleSeeds have done a very good job, well worth the price being asked for thier genetics.

My current grow is comprised of clone stock of these plants, I will report on the yield they produce when they come due.

....damn shame that your camera crapped out on you closetking.....

....very nice report on the differences between D.P. and FMS White Widow all the same.......I know that Ferry's seed offerings are always tested properly by him....I have seen him shine thru the years.......as far as female seeds go he is the top selling breeder right now.....and for good reason....

.........see if you can get just a few bud-shots............maybe borrow a camera?

GN you must have been reading my mind, or great minds think alike, or maybe a weak battery and a loose mem card. I need to learn to do important things first on my days off b4 my wake and bake and coffee.
Cams okay, heres the pics.

First is the FS WW and DPWW. FemaleSeeds on the left

FSWW

DPWW

FSWW small bud

DPWW small bud

FSNLxBigBud

FS NLxBB close

Avg bud for FS Grapefruit. I love opening this container

Notice the DpWW colas are slightly larger, but something is off on the flavor and octane with this pheno. And the overall yield is lower. I hate to disparage the DP WW in this grow since I know there are good phenos, but not this time.
