Dutch Delay Restrictions on Cannabis Sales to Foreigners

The Dutch have backed off their promise to turn border city coffeeshops into private clubs on January 1st, thereby restricting purchases to Dutch residents. The plan was supposed to cut down on the cannabis tourism and the supposed problems surrounding it.

But apparently the lure of the Euro is just too much for the Dutch to resist and the plan has been shelved indefinitely. My guess is the other local businesses finally figured out how much they would lose financially if cannatourism to their cities stopped. Also the restrictions might not have been legal for an EU country.

It's estimated that Limburg province sees four million cannatourists a year. Imagine the loss of that revenue!

Once again, marijuana proves to be an economic force to be reckoned with! Cannatourism is here to stay! Just wait until California legalizes...

yes california ,spain, are all fucking better to hang out than the very far away cold Netherlands .

the dutchs politicians (the peoples are cool) should consider us but i think its a little to late...they chosen religious freak from the middle east instead . dutch politicians dont listen the opinion of their citizens.

if pot tourists stop to visit the Netherlands....they are doomed $

the euro $ is way too expansive , climate sucks big time and if no weed...pfffffttttttt beside keukenhof garden in may, there nothing really to spend 5000 $ + for a vacation there .

if they let us free , then its a cool place for us...otherwise they kill their tourist industry for 11 months a year

oooooh....big surprise....i knew they wouldnt go through with it...
the time between when they announced they would privatize all coffee shops and now is the exact time it took to figure out that they would lose WAY too much skrilla..

The dutch have backed off .....for now. The towns and citys are "looking" at the problem.

I do not see tons of cold hard cash coming to their coffers as a "problem"!

Netherlands is pretty close to me, and I like when it's cold, makes the grow temps easier to handle, I can boost the lights and get bigger crops,

The Christian Democrats is the dominant party in the running Dutch coalition, and it seems like they made it a moral obligation to go after the cannatrade, following in the footsteps of the Canadian right wing government.

Still, I'm less pessimistic today then I was a couple of years ago. The coffeeshops survived the public smoking ban, now they survived this. The Dutch know very well that banning the sweetleaf would deprive them of a great cash-flow. Try telling parents that there won't be any new text books in school this year because they chased the weed vendors out of town.

As you said, the Dutch people are cool and the women are stunning, let's hope they value their freedom higher than their morals...

I planned on going to Holland around September of this year for about a week before my grandparents arrive in Germany where I'd later meet up with them to live out the rest of my vacation. If they did this, and actually carried it out, I sure as heck would cut Holland from my trip altogether; I’ve been there before.

Fuck that, that makes me kind of mad, what supposed problems result from the cannabis tourism?????

Also on the same trip we plan on going to the Czech Republic for a couple of days, but I doubt it would be easy for me to find anything there just because its decriminalized (its not legalized).

I really want some hash to enjoy on my vacation.

Its the Christian Union Party who is the cause that the Dutch has a repressive drugs policy. They need this party for their coalition with the socialists party PVDA and so they made their demands, but most Dutch are done with this coalition.Hopefully they are not going for Wilders, than they have a real problem.

Prague is a BEAUTIFUL city! I've never visited but saw it on one of Rick Steves' shows. He has an awesome job for a stoner. Travel Europe and get paid to do it. A big MJ advocate also. :headbange:smoker:
