The Dutch have backed off their promise to turn border city coffeeshops into private clubs on January 1st, thereby restricting purchases to Dutch residents. The plan was supposed to cut down on the cannabis tourism and the supposed problems surrounding it.
But apparently the lure of the Euro is just too much for the Dutch to resist and the plan has been shelved indefinitely. My guess is the other local businesses finally figured out how much they would lose financially if cannatourism to their cities stopped. Also the restrictions might not have been legal for an EU country.
It's estimated that Limburg province sees four million cannatourists a year. Imagine the loss of that revenue!
Once again, marijuana proves to be an economic force to be reckoned with! Cannatourism is here to stay! Just wait until California legalizes...
