DUI in Hawaii

My friend got a DUI in hawaii while riding a rented scooter around and he crashed.

he has court there in a month, so he has to fly all the way back just to go to court.

hes wondering if he just forgets about going back, will the warrant only be for hawaii or will it come back to bite him in the arse in California?

IMO it would be best for him to just get it taken care of. i understand that times are tough and taking the time out to go back just for a court date will be a pain. imagine how much of a pain it would be if this warrant DOES follow him. it will probably just be easier for him to take care of it now.

this is just another reason why its stupid as hell to get behind the wheel after drinking.

PS glad to hear your bud is ok after the crash.

Knew a chic came out to AZ to visit me she lived out east, got a dui while there and called the court when she got back home.. they worked it all out, no travel required.
i'm sure they'd be willing to work something out rather than risking him never showing his face there again... a plane ticket to across the pacific just for a misdemeanor? pffft fuck that

a chick came to visit me here in cali and she stayed. she was living in nevada and got both a dui and a few speeding tickets. she figured that once the statute of limitations was up she'd be good, so no more trips back to NV for 7 years or so.
WRONGO!
Now she has a federal hold on her license, so until she resolves her dui she cannot renew her license in ANY state. She tried to call in and pay the fine and was told that the only way to resolve the issue was to appear in court and roll the dice. Jail time being a definite possibility, she remains in a state of limbo. If she gets caught up driving now she'll really be deep in it.

^^^^^ yeah what humble1 said ^^^^^

HI will notify CA immediately after the court no show, the CA license will be suspended.
again as steppin said he can likely work it out w/o travel, especially considering air travel.

Bummer..... yea, best to deal with it. Im sure he can take care of it without having to fly all the way back out there.... Then again, Hawaii is nice! Doesn't sound like too bad of an excuse to go back to me!

haha thanks for all the advice. part of me is not sympathetic because i already ahve DUIs and i told all my stupid friends they do NOT want the hassle.

however he wasnt driving a big rig while drunk. driving a scooter drunk puts the driver more at risk because he isnt gonna slam into a mini van and kill 4 kids.

but said friend in question is a dumb city kid who partied too hard in HI. must be a fun vacation. im gonna let him know he should try and get it handled via phone call. no reason to fly all the way out to HI just for arraignment.

He can get arrested, but its doubtfull Hawaii would extradite him on it. $4000 to send a couple of cops over to get him? Probably not. He won't get a license in California if it is revoked in Hawaii though.
