currently running one 1000 watt sunmaster warm MH for flowering in my 4x6 room, its a good amount of light but doesnt cover the corners as well as two lights would. dual 750 watts overkill? i like big dense buds.

it would only be 62.5 wpsf not overkill at all go for it. only thing about 750s is they arent a common wattage.

yeah, i was figuring pushing it even to 3 600 galaxy ballasts ( galaxy cuz i like to run conversion bulbs and hortilux bulbs and such) Ill probably end up using 600s cuz its hard to find good bulbs for those 750's and they have a ton of bulb restrictions such as the lumatek. more input would be nice dudes

I've got a new Lumatek 400 digital (blue model), and as far as I know there are no bulb restrictions (Apart from the obvious...like don't put a 1000 watt bulb in there).

My vote for you is 2 x 600 watt ballasts and bulbs. It will give you 50 wpsf, which is probably the norm. around here. My first cab, which wasn't ideal, had about 85 wpsf, and I came out with some sweet dense buds. The only problem was heat control.

The reasoning behind going with the 600 watt ballasts is the simple fact that there are a lot more 600 watt bulbs presently on the market than 750 watt bulbs. From this layman's perspective, since 750 watt ballasts and bulbs may prove to be more of a dead duck than a cash cow, you're better off buying a 600 watt ballast b/c you stand better chances of finding appropriate bulbs at appropriate prices.

If the 750 watt bulbs only get picked up by a few manufacturer's expect them to be priced higher. Worst case scenario, the bulbs may run out of production. Who knows? I really don't have any experience with these new-to-market 750's, but I'd personally be hesitant to pick one up for the above reasons.

Maybe other people will chime in with more experience. All I've got is common sense I'm afraid.

because of lumateks softs start up there is a great limit to bulbs they can run. i would go with the 3 600s personally if i could cool it i would do 4 600s putting you at 100 wpsf, trust me the extra light does pay off but maybe start with 3. all the 100 wpsf grows ive seen produced massive yeilds and dense nugs. as long as you can keep everything cool ie AC and air cooled hoods.

I think that "issue" was rectified from the last Lumatek model (silver) to the newer blue one's. I use the cheapest bulb right now on my 400 watter, and there's been no problems since the first time I plugged it in.
btw, the bulb is a sylvania generic 400 watt HPS

I could be wrong, but have a look around on the board for a discussion of this very topic.

If you can cool the 3 x 600 watt bulbs going, you'd have one bright closet!
All depends on your budget at this point I guess.

Good luck,
JC

well if i had my cab in a cleaner condition id take a shot of it, i have 3 air cooled tube style hoods, 2 of them are the kind that have the extra side reflector, very nice indeed... all of the hoods are connected to one blower which sucks in cold air from outside and blows it right back out, this does not affect the cabinets air in any way. I also have a 3500 cfm blower from a large central air ac unit , thats what introduces fresh air, every 15 minutes it cycles 30 seconds of fresh air in. Ive installed a 5000 btu ac unit for during the summer. I will probably not run the large blower much at all during the summer and make the AC do all the work.

long story short ill have no problem keeping 3 600s cool, imay have to start with 2 and work my way up due to funding reasons, considering my last crop got destroyed by a faulty blower. :badday:

well im a scrog guy, i actually only have 48" of height to work with, a light mover is out of the question :(. Final decision comes to 2 600 watt HPS on each far side of the box and one 400 watt hortilux blue in the middle, that should get some great results... now to shell out the cash :(

im not sure but i dont think the 600 400 combo would be a good idea. the light intensity and output would differ too greatly so the plants under the 400 would have to be closer ect. i think it would casue some problems. maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in on this one. i think the 2 600s would be fine and then upgrade 2 a 3rd if you want to really push the envelope. you may want to do a SOG in that space 4 feet should be plenty of room as long as you arent growing a haze and you only veg for a week or less.
