My friend has a pair of lamps, a 400 watt hps and a 400 watt mh and wants to install them into one hood. He's undecided on which hood to buy, the Sunlight Supply's Super Spectrum reflector or Hydrofarms Growzilla dual relector. Who would most likely would have the best quality? Any other quality dual reflector brands out there?(U.S.)

Super spectrum reflector

The Growzilla Reflector runs off of two separate ballasts, so users can burn both Metal Halide and High-Pressure Sodium bulbs in different wattages at the same time.
Gardeners can mix and match different bulbs to best suit their gardens.
The reflector can be air cooled and includes flanges for easy vent-attachment.
The Growzilla Reflector comes complete with: cooling flange kit, tempered glass safety lens, hangers and mounting hardware.

Growzilla dual bulb reflector

Now if a person were to hook that dual MH/HPS air cooled reflector onto a lightrail, what would be better, the 6 rpm or the 10 rpm model. The Star Trac will probably win since it's speed is adjustable from 1 to ten rpm. :)
Anybody have any experience with these brands of movers? quality products?

Do not do it.. No good.. Do not... No good...

I will have to find the info.. But when put up next to one PL. Had more light output than a dual.. So you should get the PL. Ref. It is the best. I have three.. Worth the money.. Best you have ever spent thou..

P. L. Horizontal Reflector

P. L. Horizontal Reflector

The P. L. Reflectors were developed by Hortilux Schreder Labs.
The reflectors are manufactured using high quality aluminum (99. 8% pure), then polished and anodized, resulting in a microscopically facetted surface. This creates a highly efficient, uniformly diffused light pattern. Light intensity will decrease with an increase in distance from the light source. It is because of this law of nature that a smaller reflector will reflect more light than a larger one, due to less distance between the light source and the reflective surface. P.L. Reflector Systems are the most efficient reflectors available to the hobby grower. These reflectors will reflect more light with an even distribution to your plants when compared to other reflectors.

And he does'nt need an MH , MH lamp's are only for keeping mother's .

HPS with a Philip's Master Son T Pia plus bulb , is the only thing a grower need's today .

Timothy Leary ' urging us to turn on' tune in & drop out of the destructive , competetive, consumerist rat race .

400 Watt HPS P.L. Systems (Product information)

400 Watt HPS P.L. Systems (Product information)

P.L.'s advanced lighting systems are made with one-piece aluminum reflectors which deliver an intense, uniform light for even growth of plants. Their new mounting collar makes them durable and easy to maintain.
The P.L.'s compact, quiet ballast can be mounted on the wall for convenient remote control.

P.L. Lighting Systems come complete with everything you need to grow plants indoors, including the bulb, ballast, reflector, socket assembly, 15' lamp cord, wire hooks for hanging reflector and instructions.
They are pre-wired and take only a couple of minutes to setup. All ballast assemblies feature multi-tap transformers, which means that you can switch them from 110/120V to 208V, 220/240V or 277V in just minutes by changing one wire, at no additional charge!
The 15' heavy duty detachable lamp cord with it's quick-disconnect adapter makes installation a snap.... All P.L. ballasts feature a 5-year warranty.

Reflector Options:

Deep - The Deep hood is the best choice for square growing areas.

It covers a slightly smaller area than the other hoods, but the area it does cover is illuminated more intensely.
...recommendation for the Deep Reflector is to mount it 2 feet above plants that have high light requirements to cover a 3’ x 3’ area.

Midi - The Midi hood is the best choice for rectangular growing areas.

P.L.'s advanced lighting systems...
... recommendation for the Midi Reflector is to mount it 1.75 feet above plants that have high light requirements to cover a 2.5’ x 4’ area.

Bulb Options (U.S.A.):

Super Bulb - 50,000 initial lumens; 24,000 hour life-span.

Son-T Plus Bulb - 54,000 initial lumens; 24,000 hour life-span.

430W Son Agro Bulb - 53,000 initial lumens; 24,000 hour life-span.
SonAgro bulbs have an enhanced spectrum (30% more blue light) and are brighter (about 6%) than standard HPS bulbs.

Hortilux Bulb - 54,000 initial lumens; 24,000 hour life-span.
The Hortilux HPS bulb is an excellent bulb for flowering plants.
It provides an enhanced spectrum in the blue, green, red and orange spectrums, which promotes vigorous plant growth.

430 Hortilux Bulb - 58,500 initial lumens; 24,000 hour life-span.
The Hortilux HPS bulb is an excellent bulb for flowering plants. It provides an enhanced spectrum in the blue, green, red and orange spectrums, which promotes vigorous plant growth.

Grolux Bulb - 58,000 initial lumens; 24,000 hour life-span.
The Sylvania Grolux bulb was designed from the ground up specifically for growing plants.
It has the highest PAR rating (meaning it has the highest plant-usable light output) of any bulb on the market, in addition to having 30% more blue spectrum than a standard HPS bulb.

Air-Cooled Shroud:
Any P.L. reflector can easily be mounted in this Air-Cooled housing.
Adding this option is an effective way of dealing directly with bulb heat.
The P.L. A/C Shroud out-performs other air-cooled reflectors due to the fact that as the reflector inside the shroud heats up, the hot air is immediately whisked away before it has a chance to heat up the A/C shroud itself.
This is also an excellent choice when using CO2, as air can be brought from the outside of the room, through the A/C Shroud, and back outside without sucking out any CO2 from the room.

Speaking of thousand watters...

P.L. Light Systems has a reflector that was specifically designed for use with 1000 watt bulbs.
...recommendation for the 1000W Reflector is to mount it 3 feet above plants that have high light requirements to cover a 4’ x 6’ area.

If you already own a lighting system and would like to convert to a P.L Lighting System, you can purchase a P.L. Reflector and P.L. Socket Assembly (other brands of socket assemblies will not work).

http://www.bghydro.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=BHOS&Product_Code=HLPLHPS04

The P.L. Deep Reflector is recommended for lighting square gardens.
P.L. reflectors provide intense, uniform light for intense growth.

The deep reflector measures 13" long x 10" wide x 5" high.
The over all measurement with the light socket assembly is 17" long x 10" x wide x 7" high...

The P.L. Deep Reflectoris available in the 250, 270, 400, 430, and 600 watt size systems.
The Air-Cooled housing is available with all P.L. Deep Reflector systems.

i agree with bigbangboogie the phillips pia or son pro or sylvania grolux are much better than 2 different lamps ,the light spectrums these lamps produce are designed specifically for indoor growing .
well worth the money imo ;)

Gavita Reflector Lamp

Gavita Reflector Lamp

The only High Pressure Sodium (HPS) Bulb with a “built-in” reflector!
Gavita makes the perfect horticultural optical system.
They engineered the reflector optics and built them right into the lamp.
Then they perfectly aligned the arc-tube to maximize lumen output at an astounding 95% efficiency.

The unique design creates amazing uniformity in light spread, and since there is no reflector to trap in heat, growers can place this bulb much closer to their plants.
Placing the light source closer to the plant results in increased lumen exposure and healthy growth.

Works with any standard High Pressure Sodium ballast...
Available in high output 400 Watt (58,000 lumens) or 600 Watt (95,000 lumens) HPS.

Manufacturer claims it has the best engineered lighting footprint in the greenhouse lighting industry, with a spectrum specifically designed for growing plants.

I use 1 400 watt mh and 1 400 watt hps both have there own hoods tho.The hps is a hortilux and the mh is just a standerd. What i can say for sure is the 2 400s work better than 1 1000 hps with standerd bulb. Now if the 1000 watt was a hortilux i would like to see if it would work better.I just got a sun system 1 600 watt hps with the super hor. hood.I bought a hoooooortilux bulb for it and on the box it says the combo of super hps and the metal ace mh provides the optimum spectral energy levels through all stages of growth. The ss dule hood has the bulbs at each end the grozilla has them side by side.I think at each end would be better and the sun system has the german made 95% refl. spect. allu. That is supposed to be good stuff

For the money the 1000w with the hortilux is worth the bucks!!

Here is dual 400w's, have 430 hortilux hps and a hps conversion 400 hortilux. If I was only getting one or the other I would go with the 1000w:wave:

What do you guys think of the combo ballasts? switchable from hps to mh..
is that a good way to go.. As i am saving literally every pennie i get my hands on.
So i can get a new lighting system.. Because my current system is from 1982 or 83
So yes i need a new light. Hydrofarm for me. thats what i have now it rox still..
even though right nowits not in use.. soon enough. peace.

sackoweed.... I think the switchables are only worthwhile if you are doing ALL your growing in one room.. I would save some money and get a HPS for flowering, and have another room to start seeds, and root clones under fluros (until you want to buy a MH for veg) get a horti bulb and you can veg them for a bit before flowering under the HPS..

youll have to work out a system where you have some plants to go in the day plants get harvested imo

I have the sun system dual bulb reflector.. with 2 400w HPS :) im gonna put a 250 or 400w MH in one of the spots one of these days.. to cover a little more space the sun system dual is better with the bulbs end to end.. to mix the spectrum better the bulbs are better side by side like in the growzilla...

my $.02

As the proud owner of both a sun systems super spectrum 800w, and a hydrofarm xtrasun 400w switchable i feel i need to give my opinion here. I just recently acquired the hydrofarm light and i would have to say that the performance so far is flawless. this ballast runs fairly cool and is really quiet, especially when compared to the sunsytems ballast. I've owned my super spectrum for almost six years and the light itself has functioned perfectly. The reflector is well designed, has a great light footprint, is easy to vent, and grows great nugs. the added metal halide really keeps the buds tight and more dense than hps alone but that is just my opinion. the downside to the sunsytem is that the ballast is a little noisy and it weighs a shitload! so i wouldn't try hanging it from the wall or ceiling. all in all the systems both function perfectly and both grow decent weed which is all that is really important. if i had to do it all over again i would have bought two separate ballasts and reflectors solely for the weight issues, would have still went with the sunsytems for the reliability. the hydrofarm unit still has to pass the test of time with me but so far so good.
just my experience,

hey Im boggled
Ihave the system you are talking about had two 400watter in her now there is a 600w hps and a 400w mh on a 6ft light rain it covers a 4x8 area real nice
and is real easy to cool.
the other hood you are talking about i think you have to but an light add on kit to use it on the rail for the weight is too much for it imho

it has real good coverage

happy growing
